Hi Beth,

How is Elmo's Poop Situation?

Hi Beth,

How is Elmo's Poop Situation?
Now that is a true friend who would ask about a kitty's pooping :bighug:. He is doing so much better. At present giving 1/8 miralax 1x a day plus he gets 1/8 t SEB once to twice a day . Plus he gets 1 t pumpkin once to twice a day . Seems to me if that doesn't clear things out it isn't gonna get done !!! He feels so much better and so I feel better !!! Love that u checked on us, Kris !!!!! Hope all is well in Teasel Land :bighug:

Things are fine here, Beth. Still musing over the Lantus issue. It still seems 6 of one and half a dozen of the other to me ...

Kris, I totally understand the musing process. That's where I am on the homemade food front . I enjoy gathering info but the experienced advice found on FDMB is priceless. I study and think over what I gather and will decide soon.

I don't know what's going on with Ozzy. Is he bouncing? Is his dose too low? I can't really tell since we have huge gaps in data for the last 5 AM cycles and I haven't been testing much after +4 on the PM cycle because I am getting up around 5:30am (and still adjusting). I admit I kind of wonked with his doses and skinnied them down at the beginning of the week. I was worried he might drop below 50 while we weren't here and neither Hubby or I could be here past +1 any day this week to monitor. Then he went kind of high at his AM/PM PSs so the last 3 PM cycles, I wonked with is dose again and fattened it up a little. I am probably messing with his doses too much (I'm sure someone will tell me this is the case), so I'll just fess up and own it now. With these high numbers, I feel like we are going backwards when we had such beautiful momentum just a little while back. How do we get back to that???

Ozzy did get to green last night with his fattened .5U shot, but I stopped testing after +4 because I needed to go to bed. I gave him a last snack and then put his other snacks in the feeder and have no idea what happened afterwards. It seems like his drop slowed down a bit at +4. Maybe he is bouncing. Even though he may or may not have dropped below 50, in 4 hours he dropped 233 points and I suppose that steep of a drop could cause a bounce on its own. ??
I'm glad I can monitor for these next 5 cycles, but with the depot always in effect, I just don't know what to expect anymore.

What dose should I give him tomorrow? I'll be shooting him around 5:30 am tomorrow (my new schedule is fun, huh!? Even on weekends!!)... Could the time change of his dose this week (about 90 mins- 2 hours from his normal shot time on my past schedule) be in play here, too???

Just did Ozzy's +4 test= 287. He has come down almost a hundred points in 4 hours.

Figgie was 55. Lucky Civvie. He wanted a test...trust me, he did.

I have only tested Figgie 2xs and the first time he was 59 and this time 55. If I had a number like that for Ozzy, I would be reaching for some higher carb food. Are we maybe freaking out a little too much over numbers in the 50s? I guess the real challenge is that numbers in the 50s are insulin induced in our hyperglycemic kitties who are usually much higher due to their DM, and we just don't know how much lower they are going to drop below 50.

This dance is fun, huh??

The issue, Jo, is whether I'll try Teasel on it again. I posted on this forum in the AM looking for advice from the pros here. l follow Ozzie regularly and like to check in on Elmo too.
@Kris & Teasel Thanks for always checking in on us and Mr. Elmo, too!!! I read your post from this morning and looked at Teasel's SS again to see what he's been up to. I'm glad you are considering switching to Lantus. I see Teasel still has a lot of red PS numbers which must be incredibly frustrating/disappointing for you. I know you guys have only been on insulin just a few months longer than us, but it seems that Teasel is all over the place with the prozinc. Maybe making this switch will be exactly what is needed for Teasel to get him to come down a little and have more stable numbers over all.

Did you make a decision for sure if you want to switch? With lantus being available OTC where you live, I don't see what you have to loose.

Good luck. I hope you start posting in LL now so I can follow Teasel here (I'm not really in the other forums much now lately).

That's so cute and funny! I tested Baby once, but not bcuz he wanted it. I just wanted to check after his panc attack. I think I'll do it more often, like once a week. He won't give up his kibbles, still, but is eating a little canned.

Ha! I just watched you add your +5 onto your SS. That was neat!
I think maybe Ozzy maybe got a little lower last night and stayed for a bit and is bouncing today. But, hey, what do I know (not much, at least about FD stuff). I would stick to your current dose at least one more day and see what happens. I mean, if you increase and he immed starts going into lows, you will be back at work, worrying.

Jeez, I wish I lived a little closer to you and I could come over and test midday for you during the week. Weekends are my busier times, usually. Maybe you should see if you can hire a vet tech or something. I used to do that for my epileptic dog, and it was worth my piece of mind.

Wow, that's so sweet of you to even wish that!!!:bighug:

Never thought of a vet tech coming. Hubby would definately not go for that though. He doesn't like strangers in the house. o_O He is kind of over protective.

Yep, that's it. It's not the 50's (or, even sometimes, the 40's) that are the problem, it's where they might go from there, and how quickly.

I don't know enough to know what's up with Ozzy's numbers, but if it were me I'd give the regular dose and monitor like crazy on the weekend to try to get a better handle on things. I'd also make sure to get some ketone tests in-- are recent ones just not on the spreadsheet? I worry about cats with a DKA history.

Good luck this weekend, and hope that you get some extra sleep in after TFS in the mornings!
