Not sure whether I should try to stall her big dives in the AM or just use LLC or LC food and let her drop, even if it's 140 pts an hour, even though this seems to lead to a bounce to high numbers at night. If she didn't do these deep dives, though, we wouldn't get to blues during the day...

When she starts in really high numbers, LC food 6 and under doesn't seem to slow her down at all.

I gave her a tsp of MC 15 gravy at +1 as she'd already dropped 67 pts and was desperate for food; she still dropped another 50 by +2. Gave her LC 9 at +2 and we'll see where she goes at that. She's cranky because she's dropping and she wants food!

Deja vu: This is only the millionith time I've pondered this question...

I wish I could figure out how to help her clear these PM bounces. :banghead: :bookworm: :banghead:

She's boycotting FF Savoury Salmon right now, so that staple is off the menu for the time being...

Here's hoping all kitties surf safely tonight and let their beans get some sleep. :-)

I think you have to experiment and see what works for Girlie. Take good notes on %carbs, quantity and when. I wouldn't start with HC, but maybe try higher LC. Up to 10% is LC. Start with that first, then move up to lower MC. Note that one day is not a food experiment. You may have to try something for a week before moving onto the next experiment.

Note that meters can vary by 20%. Those 67 and 50 point drops are well within meter variance.

Thanks so much, Wendy. I gave her LC 9% at +2, so it'll be interesting to see how much she drops by +3.

Curious about two things:

1. If this pattern repeats and she does a PM bounce to high numbers and we start again with a high black number tomorrow, I'm wondering whether I should start with the LC9% for her AMPS and just wait until she hits lower numbers to give the under 5 carbs. A while ago I started at AMPS with LC 6 to see whether it made a difference, and she still did her +2, etc. dives. Perhaps it will just take a bigger punch of LC when she starts at such high numbers and clearly is on a mission to drop...?

2. The end of October is the end of month 4 on Lantus, although I'd dismiss most of the first month as she was so ill and in hospital so often. Someone mentioned Levimir, and I was wondering at what point I would consider perhaps trying Levimir, or is that something that's silly to wonder about right now?

Some cats do better on slightly higher carbs. Just try it (experiment) and see what works for Girlie.

As for Levemir, that's also a possibility. Some cats go flatter on Lev, some don't. We usually suggest waiting 6 months on an insulin before switching.

Thanks for that, Wendy.

She's going slower down the ladder today, so I feel safe, at least, going in to work. That's been part of the problem this week and will only intensify next week: if I can be home and watch her dive, that's fine; if she starts diving at +2 and I have to leave her and be away for 4 hours, then I don't feel comfortable just letting her dive as I'm not sure where she'll end up by the time I have to leave. It's a dilemma!
