I don't normally post daily however today was a bad morning for us. Just some background, FA has a history of pancreatitis/DKA and has been hospitalized for it twice since the end of Aug 2019. Ketones were zero on the blood ketone meter this morning.
This morning I could hear him playing in his tunnel right before I got up to give him his breakfast and shot at 6am. He threw up his breakfast soon after and continued to throw up white bile a few more times and did not look good and was sitting as a loaf (I looked at the camera and saw that he previously ate at 3am). It was a very quick turn from feeling ok to not and last night he was looking exceptionally good - rolling around and playing a lot.
I immediately tried to give him his cerenia in a pill pocket but he would not eat it. So we then gave him 100ml of fluids and I gave him 0.5 ml of gabapentin (small dose so it doesn't knock him out) in case it is pancreatitis again. We then brought out the dry food and he ate a fair bit of that and ate some freeze dried salmon treats. I managed to smash the cerenia into one of the salmon treats and he ate it. He ate a teeny bit more before going and hiding under the bed (which is unlike him). I wasn't able to get him the appetite stimulant or check his BG before I left for work because he was under the bed. That said he kept the dry food and salmon down for the hour before I left for work. And once I got to work I checked on the camera and saw he got up to eat a little more soon after I left. I left a plethora of all the forbidden foods out for him. I will be home to check on him at lunch around 12pm. As of now he is spending his time not in view of the camera.
I know it's only been a few hours but we are not willing to take any chances with his history. Really hoping that we can manage this at home - we cannot hospitalize him again. We did not have medication and fluids in our arsenal the last two times. Please keep up in your thoughts and any additional advice/feedback is welcome!
