Good morning!
AMPS 119 shooting .75F

Boomer ate all of his overnight fuds. However, he did wake me up at 5:15; his auto feeder rotates to an empty dish at 5:10 so that I know at testing time that I'm not testing a food spike. I got up and checked his 5:00 food and sure enough he hadn't finished it. So since it was only 5:15 I gave it to him.

I've been researching food options for Allen to help stall the progression of his CKD and bring down his calcium level. And apparently some recommend feeding high protein, some recommend feeding low protein. Allen does have loss of muscle mass so I wouldn't want to go very low in protein, and I would actually like him to gain a couple of pounds. So what has everyone fed their CKD cats? High protein or low protein?

It got cold here overnight and yesterday's rain turned to snow.:p

Yesterday, except for lunch with my friend, was a total waste of time. My newborn customer (dad and baby) was supposed to come back for an hour at 2:00. At 11:00 I get a message from the mom "I have an appt at 1:30 and he needs to drive me, can he come later or tomorrow". Of course I had already set up the studio again for the session so I asked her how late he would be and she indicated 4:00. I said that was ok but I couldn't start any later than 4:00 and would only shoot for an hour. So.....I had most of the studio set up by that time and after I got back from lunch I set up the rest, tested my lights, etc. At 3:15 I get a message "baby has been cranky all day I don't think it will work out today I don't want to waste your time". sigh. My time was already wasted setting the studio back up for the second session.:rolleyes::rolleyes: Ok rant over

Today on this Bean's agenda: Dr appt later this morning and for the rest of the day some editing and stuff around here.

Nice start Boomer...he's looking more Boomer like these days :D LC/LP for CKD kitties :cat::cat: Glad you enjoyed lunch yesterday and sorry the do over baby session didn't work out.

Nice start for Boomer I don't have experience with CKD kitties but looks Karen gave you some advice.

Bummer about the photo session Some people have no regard for other's time Couldn't you start charging a "set up" fee for people that cancel earlier than 24 hours.

Glad you at least salvaged the day with lunch with a friend .

I'm glad Boomer is doing well. I hope you find some food that works for Allen. How frustrating with the parents. People just don't think. I hope your doctor's appointment goes well.

I have to admit trying to find a good kidney diet makes me wanna rip my hair out probably more than trying to find a good FD diet does (so you can imagine the joy in trying to find one that accommodates both!)....but for obvious reasons Trix does eat high protein. Unfortunately I do think in general loss of muscle mass tends to come with CKD.

Grrrr on that photo shoot fiasco! But Boomer is lookin' good!

So I've been reading "Tanya's" information and it sounds like the therapeutic foods that can only be obtained from the vet (at least in Canada) are the best because they're so low in phosphorous. Because Allen has idiopathic hypercalcemia, there are apparently certain fibres we need to avoid so I've sent Dr Larry a message asking if he can get the information from Royal Canin and then we'll slowly try to transition Allen over.

Since Capone's bloodwork showed that he is in early stages of CKD, I have tried some of the lower carb + low phosphorus foods for him and I have had the best luck with the Wysong Epigen Turkey and Duck. Granted, he's not a picky eater - but he sure liked that. And that way I knew that it wouldn't be bad for Walter and Mandarin if they happened to eat some of it too. Good luck finding something that Allen likes!

Well, I was looking for something that both cats could eat but I've pretty much given up on that idea. Ever since we took Boomer off the fancy feast, he's been picky and I didn't think he'd ever be picky! And Allen seems to like only Fancy Feast pate which is high in phosphorous. So I have asked Dr Larry to find out if the kidney diets (canned and dry) are ok for a hypercalcemic cat and, if they are, we will switch Allen over gradually. Hopefully.

Boomer where did those pretty greens from yesterday go?? time to start staying in the green buddy... hope you find a diet soon Allen can eat :bighug::bighug::bighug: some parents are worse then their kids! super rude! :bighug::bighug:

He's still in the range of a normal cat, so I wouldn't worry too much. Cats go through these phases. Try not to stress about it!

Good luck with finding a good food for Allen. It sure is a challenge!

Hang in there, Judy!
