Good morning LL!
Clyde's BG this morning was 80, which is pretty good but during the day yesterday he ate only .8oz of food and 3oz of food last night.

His weight on my home scale is 17lbs. Based on what I've found, the average indoor 17lb cat needs to consume 340 calories per day to maintain his weight. The food I'm feeding him is approximately 38 calories per ounce so he should be eating almost 9 ounces of food a day just to maintain his weight.

@julie & punkin (ga) I called the vet's office this morning. They suggested that I try a different cat food to see if that will spark his appetite. They said if that didn't work, I could bring him in this morning.

Unfortunately, Clyde decided that he likes to be under the bed right now. I don't think he liked me weighing him earlier. He didn't want to come out to try the new food or even for the cat treats he loves and would eat a bagful if he had a chance. He wanted the bag of treats first thing this morning when checked his BG and before I weighed him.

With that said, I'm hoping he eats the new cat food during the day. I talked to the vet's office again and knowing Clyde's personality, we feel it is more likely that he will try the new food at home then there after getting examined. I will monitor him over the weekend and if nothing changes he will be going to the vet on Monday.

Morning Will :coffee::coffee::coffee:

A nice BG to start today. I think your plan is a good one. I too would have him checked out, just to be sure, and for peace of mind. The new food is a good idea too. We went through that scenario here too.

Eat up Clyde! Appy vines for you.

Have a great day today. I hope all goes well.

Sending eating vines to Clyde.

I know my Ginger is still grieving for J.D. She just loves his old bed that probably still has some of his smell on it.

I would talk to Clyde, and give him extra lovings throughout the day. I hope you find a food that he likes.

Good numbers... hopefully some different food will do the trick.

Have you tried any Pepcid (famotidine)? Is he meatloafing? (hunched up in a ball)?

@Michelle and Mannie (GA) Good morning! I'm hoping it's just him missing Max.

@Dyana I looked at Dr. Pierson's food list got a couple cans of the Fancy Feast Classic that were low carb. Basically anything but chicken :) The Fancy Feast Classics are double the carbs of his current food (EVO 95% Chicken & Turkey) but are still low carb. (The EVO is listed as 2% carb and the Fancy Feast is 4% carb). I don't know what it will do to his BG levels, but at this point I just want him to eat and will deal with whatever happens with his BG later.

@Grayson & Lu I have not tried giving him any supplements. Clyde is on medication for a heart condition (12.5mg atenolol & 2.5mg benazepril once daily and 40mg aspirin 2x a week) so I tend to be cautious with what I give him and check with my vet first since I don't know if there could be any unforeseen interactions. When I got up he was walking around my bed rubbing and head butting me waiting for me to give him his treat (compounded medication :)) and to test his BG. I haven't seen any meatloafing, or at least any more then normal for him. He seams to like that position when he's on alert and watching something.

Unfortunately, the only thing I can say with any certainty is since Clyde went back on the juice 114 days ago, 96 days his PMBG has been higher then his AMBG. It's my understanding the PMBG typically goes down before the AMBG.

Just want to make sure you see all these tips on getting an inappetant cat to eat There are many more than just trying a different food. In addition to that list, I'd add sprinkling the food with catnip or oregano (which is related to catnip and some cats like.)

Usually the am #s are affected by Dawn Phenomenon and yes, the pm typically comes down first. But ECID is very true - cats are different.

Hi @julie & punkin (ga) I will be trying most of them over the weekend. Hopefully something works. The good news is he ate 1.5oz during the day, which is more then he ate yesterday during the day yesterday.

He just came out to the kitchen looked at the food and then made a hasty exit. For dinner, I put down 3oz of his regular food and 3oz of Fancy Feast...it was one of the low carb seafood based one.

I'm not moving from the computer because I don't want to scare him, but I hear what sounds like eating in the next room. Keep everything crossed. :)

I put down two different types of food tonight. The good news is so far he's eaten something. Maybe a quarter can of fancy feast. It's not much and it is more then he ate in the same time period last night.

Keep eating Clyde. I know what you mean about not moving. With the issues Vyktor's been having I freeze wherever I am if he starts to eat too :) I have been finding that I get a lot more food into him if I home deliver and hold the bowl for him. Every 3/4 hour or so (or two hrly during the middle of the day when he doesn't eat as much) I take his food bowl to where he's sleeping and put it under his nose. He seems to have some sort of instinct to go ahead and eat without thinking about it when I do that.
