This condo makes me anxious because I shouldn't even be saying any of this out loud for fear of jinxing things. There's no denying that Jenks is currently having the best and longest run of numbers of our five year diabetes journey. Crazier yet is the dose that he's doing it on.
Consequently, I've been very hesitant to make changes because I don't want to do anything that may trigger a reversion to the cruddy numbers of our recent past. That means I've tolerated more sub-50 trips than the rules, or the advice that veteran posters, would allow.
He's been at 5.0U for three weeks now. His numbers are fantastic. While he's taken a couple of deeper dives, those were easily manageable. Today turned out a little different because he powered through a meal and a pick-me-up to drop into the 30s.
It's always been a challenge to determine when Jenks might be ready for a reduction. He's a cat who can randomly throw out a lime green completely unrelated to dose and then go right back to the routine, which is why we tend to hold back and watch for a repeat pattern to emerge. There have been a smattering of 40s at this dose, but they really haven't been spaced closely enough in time to call a pattern.
But the trip to the 30s, combined with the fact that he's just barely above 100 at PMPS, means that it's time to do the inconceivable. We're saying "so long" to the 5's and reducing to 4.75U, a dose that we haven't seen since early 2015.
I'm so nervous about what's going to happen. I want him to continue to do great, so all I can do is hope for the best. Come on Jenks, you got this buddy.
