All is well with Trix....happy appy, feisty, snuggly. We've had some gelcap issues, but nothing TOO major...it's going down, and that's what counts.

My Dad was released from the hospital yesterday, but is still pretty weak and wobbly. And, his fever spiked again last night. We thought we were heading back to the ER, but the on-call oncologist said to take Tylenol, monitor, and call my Dad's onc this morning. Within an hour of taking his AB last night, the fever started to come down...he's still fighting this infection. I'm hoping his onc will just extend the course of ABs, rather than making us drag him out to the office. He needs the rest - as you all know, "sleeping" in a hospital is anything but restful. So far this morning his temperature is still normal, but he still feels like he was hit by a truck.

He's on Lantus and Metformin for now - until we can see the endocrinologist. In the hospital, he was on Novolog before meals, and Lantus overnight. I had to go over to their house a couple times last night to help them through their first few at-home BG tests and first shot. I have to say, shooting with the pen is amazing - what a fabulous invention for humans!! They are incredibly overwhelmed with all this, and I remember that feeling all too well. My Dad would actually be OK with all of it if he weren't so sick, so having to deal with both at the same time is brutal. I'm glad I have my background...it is helping tremendously. This morning's BG is 124....It's a long shot since he's on a heavy-duty steroid, but I'm hoping once this infection clears, the BG issue will settle out.

I'm attempting to go to work for a little while today...I'm ready for life to normalize again. Thank you for all the visits and prayers...I've been peeking in on everyone, but haven't had the time to actually post. Prayers are going out to everyone here....

Amy

I am so glad your dad's fever came down with the ABs. Hopefully they will just continue that instead of insisting on seeing him. You have to all be exhausted, but him especially. Thinking about all of you.

I'm so glad your DF is home. Vines and prayers that he stays home and when the infection clears he won't need insulin. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I'm glad your dad got to come home. I hope he gets over the infection quickly. Your parents are lucky to have you with your knowledge to help them out. Sending more prayers. :bighug::bighug:

(((Amy & Trixie))) So glad to hear your dad is home and I sure hope he can stay home and not have to go make a trip to the oncologist. It is ironic yet has to be comforting to your mom and dad that you have vast knowledge about diabetes and Lantus! Sending our strongest vines and prayers your way!

More vines for your dad, Amy. I'm so glad that he came home today. Just being home will help so much! I didn't realize that he had developed diabetes, too. I must have missed that. Anyway, he's lucky to have a "expert" in the family. Just be sure not to test him on his ear!

Hugs and scritches. Trixie is being such a good girl!

Sending scritches to Trixie! Glad she's doing well. Sending mega healing vines to your dad! Thank heavens that you're around and that you have experience with diabetes (as much as we all wish we didn't have all of this "experience" and "knowledge".) Sending (((hugs))) to you, Amy!
