Happy Caturday everyone! So far this morning the kitties and I have been snuggling. It turned chilly again yesterday and is still quite cold today. We had flurries all day yesterday and it has been doing the same this morning.

I was a little perplexed by Sammy's cycle last night, there wasn't really a curve it just started out with flat blue and looks like it slowly dropped for the rest of the night. We are seeing a similar action today, but he is starting out in the 80's.

Don't get me wrong, I am very happy that he is in the normal numbers, and I am trying to to worry so much that he isn't in the 60's and 70's, but I just would like to know why there isn't a regular curve.

Any thoughts?
 
Are you shooting low to stay low? With Lantus, once you get down to lower numbers, the drop isn't quite as obvious and you get more of a nice level series of numbers.
 
That's actually PURRFECT!!!

When we first start, the cycles are all over the place...then as they get better regulated, you start to see a curve...at first, it can be like a BIG smile

When you're doing even better, the smile flattens out even more ....Not so high on the ends of the smile, and not such a big dip

Where you're doing really great (like you are), the smile is more of a grin....Kind of flat!!;) without big swings in the BG....this is what we aim for!! (as long as all those numbers are green!)

Thanks, I just didn't know if this was a sign that I should be watching for something to happen.

I just went back to Sammy's old spreadsheet and as he was nearing the Falls his cycles were a lot more flat. I guess I forgot that. But at the same time his numbers were lower and there wasn't much further for him to drop from the 60's.

Is it possible that the rise up into the low 100's last night could be a sign that he is getting too much insulin? I know typically he would present a low if he were getting too much, but is there a thing that their body will compensate to prevent a low? I jus think that even though the difference hasn't been great, he has had lots of drops from +9 to PS in the last week. I know they can have a double dip, but wonder if this is his body preventing going too low since he is already in normal numbers.
 
Tina, I'm curious. Why do you want to see numbers in the 60's-70's? Anything under 120 is normal? Are you thinking that if you see those lower numbers that you will be able to decrease his insulin? If he doesn't go over 120 for a week you get the same reduction. Your ss is beautiful. To me I his numbers are great and yet you don't have to worry about a hypo. :):D

If you think he's allergic to chicken have you checked out all the other food he gets? The woman on www.catnutrition.org talks about how people try going to a novel protein when their cat has trouble with cat food instead of eliminating all the foods that a cat wouldn't ordinarily eat that get included in cat food. I thought it made a lot of sense. That's not Dr. Lisa's site, but apparently she has collaborated with Dr. Lisa.

Yes, the vet wanted to put Sammy on a novel protein, which is why I got some food with Duck and Venison to see if that would help. As it turned out the food I got also contained chicken so that didn't help. I will probably try the duck again at some point, as well as the venison, but the food can't contain chicken which I am pretty sure isn't good for Sammy.
 
It's Lantus at its bestate holding blood sugar flat in the normal numbers.

you're obsessing about getting him lower than he needs to be. 80s are perfect.

He's not getting too much insulin. Relax and enjoy this!

Based on the TRP they say normal numbers are between 50-80, and in my mind I was thinking that unless Sammy got to that range most of the time he would never make it back to the FALLS. When he was on insulin before that was the range that he was in just before going on his OTJ trial. So that is what I was shooting for, but this time around it hasn't been as easy to keep Sammy in those numbers, and everyone keeps telling me that as long as he is under 120 that is regulated. I am really trying to change my mindset, but it is really hard.

I do know that once he is under 120 for 7 days (14 cycles) I can try a reduction to see how he does, and I am already counting down those days. LOL! My biggest concern is that we will try a reduction this way and it will fail. Every other reduction he has earned by going under 50, and I would really prefer that the reductions are earned that way, but I would also love to see him have reductions anyway he can get them as long as they STICK.
 
Actually I think a reduction earned by staying in normal numbers for a week is much better than one that comes from a cycle with lots of higher numbers but one blip below 50. All his time under 120 is healing time for his pancreas.

I have read through the information. I have considered making my own raw food before, but it really sounds like a lot of work. I know it would be totally worth it if it provided better nutrition for my beloved furry family members. I will continue to read through the information and consider this option. I think I just need to get past Knit Camp before I put anything else on my plate though.

I was just about to post "Hopefully we will see some big improvements tonight." and then tested Sammy for +1.5 and Yay we have 79.
 
It might help you to look at other OTJ kitties spreadsheets. Vyktor is just one example but you can see he was still getting blues at the end and indeed he continues to get the odd blue. IT IS FINE - now repeat that 20 times each morning :cool::cool::cool:

LOL! I do try to look at all the OTJ kitties spreadsheets to see how things went before OTJ.
