Hello LLL!

Last condo: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/3-29-billie-pmps-219.135371/

Billie has been doing much better since she started taking ondansetron. Her appy has improved, and her poos have improved, thank goodness. She will drink the medicine crushed up in tuna water, so it is very easy to give her. I am giving her 2mg twice a day. I started with 1mg and it did help, but 2mg seems to help more.

I have been trying a bunch of different food options, and I learned that while the large Instinct pork cans simply won't do, the small Instinct pork cans are delicious. I definitely understand where Billie is coming from - the pork has a totally different texture and color in the small cans, and it does look far more appetizing.

We still have an appointment on Thursday for a pancreatitis test. I wonder if it is worth doing if she is not symptomatic? I think I remember someone mentioning that the test may not show useful results when there isn't a flare up going on. I guess we'll see how she's doing.

Her weight is up a little! She has been at 9 lbs even for a while, but today she was at 9.4 when I weighed both of us/subtracted my weight. I'm not sure how significant that is, but I like it! My scale has been pretty accurate so far.

I hope everyone is doing well. Sending lots of vines to all the kitties and beans needing vines.

It looks like Billie is on the right track. Working this dose well, too, I'm glad to hear the poo is improving (I never talked about poo so much in my life until I joined this Board!).

Isn't Ondansetron wonderful? Minka gets 2 mg a day, too.

Interesting about the difference in the Instinct pork between can sizes. I'm not surprised. I like Coke Zero in the 16 oz bottles, but I can't stand it in the can! o_O

Yay for weight gain! Keep up the good work, Billie.

Thanks for the info on the Flovent. Our vet thinks it might be an option for Sasha, but wants to wait to see if Pred and an AB help, first.

Ondansetron is what works for Max as well. He also needs 2mg. It took a long time to figure that out. Until Dr. J. on the list suggested it Max was needing cyproheptadine at least once a day or every other.

As to whether or not to get the pancreatitis test, it's a tough call. It won't be elevated if it has passed but you don't know if she would be symptomatic without the ondansetron. Based on her symptoms it sure seems like that was the problem. The question then becomes what good would the test do. If negative nothing. If positive you would continue what you are doing. I know you have the tough other worry hanging over your head but if she were my kitty I think I would put the appointment off and see what happens when you cut back on the ondansetron. I would want several good days before doing that and then do it gradually. If it is pancreatitis and everything is fine without ondansetron you won't need the test at this time. Tough call. Maybe see what your vet says? Maybe ask Dr. J.?

Thanks for the visits, Tricia, Carla, Marilyn and Elise! Elise, thanks for your thoughts. I'm still torn on what to do. I talked to the vet and he said let's keep the appointment and do the test. Billie did seem like her appy was still off this morning before she got the ondansetron. She just picked at her food initially before she got the pill, but an hour or so after, she went back for more. It's possible that she just didn't like what was on the menu, but it also makes me wonder if she is still having underlying issues. I guess it can't hurt to bring her in. She gets stressed at the vet, but she is very polite about it and adjusts quickly once she gets home. I'll ask Dr. J. what he thinks too.

Billie is bouncing a little after surfing the 80s for a while last night. She was just running around chasing a toy, so she definitely seems to feel good now!
