so do you set a specific distance in the caliper and then hold it and see that it is the right amount ? How do you know you have half of .5 ? stil confuded about caliper usage . And the plunger bulges up too..so is it to the edge of the plunger ?
What I did is I took one syringe that I used as pattern sort of speak and measured the distance from the top of the syringe (not the needle) to the cero line, that would always be my starting point in the caliper for any dose I will add the amount to this one ( in my case it was 0.66 mm) .
This is important particularly in this very small doses because the markings on the syringes I use do vary from one lot to another as Wendy & Neko discovered and this allows me to keep the doses consistent
After that I measured the distance between cero and one unit this would be my one unit measure (1.27 mm) this I divided in 4 so that I could have the 1/4u or 0.25u which gave me 0.317mm
Then to get the measure in the caliper for lets say 0.25u I would add my starting measure (0.66mm) plus the 1/4u ( 0.317mm) in my case this would be 0.97 mm in the caliper and that's what I would use to measure the 0.25u , for the 0.5u it would be 0.66mm+0.635mm=1.29 mm
For the 0.1u (which is aprox 1/8u) I divided the 1.27mm by 8 which gave me 0.158mm and this is what I would add to my baseline of 0.66mm so for this dose I would measure in the caliper 0.81mm
In the practice is really hard to measure every time with the caliper so what I did is grabbed a peace of piece of paper and draw a line for the top of the syringe and small lines where every dose is ( this would be where the top of the plunge would go ), I put that on the fridge door ( I shoot at the kitchen) so that is vertical, I found it easier to use that way, and I compare my syringe to the measure there every time
OH and very important I bought myself a pair of reading glasses with lot more graduation that the one I would usually have, that actually work as a magnifying glass that allow me to have both hands free ( no way I could see this doses at plain sight)
The measures more o less end like the next photo
Of course the measures in mm would vary from one type and brand of syringe to another
Hope this helps a little bit
