WCR: All Ps in place. Shasta was being a bit of a brat this morning with her fuds. She just wouldn't eat and yet, I knew she was hungry. I swear it's the Cosequin. So, I decided to put out the same breffis without Cosequin...much better. @Amy&TrixieCat, funny that I did exactly what you discussed but I didn't get on the computer until just now (+7). :p Got snuggles last night and this morning. She really wants to be on my lap right now, but I'm trying to get her condo written & eat my own breffis and then it's time to iron & sew. Today's all about trying to reduce my pile-o-sheets-turned-dog/cat-blankets and replace a few zippers on some chorus dresses (I will attempt this...don't know if it'll go too well!) Yesterday, I bought a few cat toys at one of my thrift stores with the thought that I'd take them to the Humane Society, but first I decided to see what Shasta thought of them. Here is the result:

Question: Lactated Ringer Solution - does it have potassium in it? Just wondering for both Shasta and Pixie who both have low potassium. I stopped giving Shasta her potassium supplements (PotassiTabs) because she stopped eating her fuds, but was hoping that the sub-q fluids were continuing to help with her potassium levels. Also, I worried about the K levels because I couldn't take her in to check levels without them sedating her and then we potentially run into the risk of heart failure, etc. Thinking about Pixie's low K levels, too.

Thank you to everyone who gave help & advice yesterday to me (for my sister's cat). I haven't heard from her today, but I texted her and I'm waiting to hear how Pixie is doing. This board and the people on it are truly amazing & compassionate people. I'm sure I/we will have more questions, but for the time being...Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!

Sending healthy vines to all our sugar kitties and their hoomins! Blessings!

Shasta. Whatcha doin' in that video. The screen just says "This video is private" when I click on it. Censored? For mature audiences only? (BTW, I've been a mature audience for almost 50 years!) Curious minds want to know.

Boomer (and many previous cats here) have been on LRS fluids. They only came with potassium when it was specified, either on the bag, or if added by the vet or me, a marking on the bag. Your bag should have a list of ingredients somewhere.

Vines for Pixie. And your sister.

hmmm....don't know if I fixed the video or not. Please let me know and if it's still not showing, I'll try one more thing.

Thanks, everyone! There are two of those toys...the blue snake and a brown reindeer. I'm afraid that I may have to hold on to both of them. She doesn't play much and it's very hard to find things she enjoys playing with...so they may have to stick around.

As for Pixie, Susan just texted me in a panic because Pixie is barely able to walk (similar to when she was first diagnosed with hyperT). She's only had about an ounce of Friskies Special Diet T&G in the past 2 days. Very concerned. :(

I doubt she's checked her for hydration. She did successfully give her sub-q fluids for the first time today, but she did say that she was nervous because she wasn't able to create a very good tent...very little skin to use for tent. :(

Deborah, we are so sorry to hear that your sister's Pixie has gotten so weak. Is she in obvious pain? If so, she needs to go to the vet. Did the inability to walk come on suddenly? If so, she should go right away to the vet.

Sending strong healing vines to Pixie.

Great video of Shasta with her newn toy

Hugs and scritches,

Thank you, Ella. From what my sister describes, she is very wobbly & has been for a few days. She stopped eating around Thursday and nothing on Friday. Susan took her to the vet on Friday and they pumped her full of electrolytes/fluids & antibiotics (for possible infection) and sent her home. I convinced Susan to buy some Friskies Special Diet T&G and offer Pixie some...which she loved, but Susan was/is so afraid that it is going to screw with her hyperT so bad that IT will kill her. Therefore, she only gives her little bits at a time. She just offered her some and she ate a little and then moved away. I hate not being there to help her. She's contemplating taking her back to the vet tomorrow morning and I imagine if there is no improvement, she'll do that.

Do you know if she has tried getting her to eat the y/d again? If she will eat some of that, and some of the Friskies, she could still benefit from the y/d. An IM told me the mix needs to be at least 80% of the prescription food for it to be effective. Urge her to keep offering food (at this point, ANY food). She risks hepatic lipidosis if she doesn't get Pixie to eat enough, at which point HyperT will not matter at all. I'm not trying to scare you, but I lost my beloved Kisa by thinking the way your sister is thinking. I don't want to see that happen to Pixie. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you, Tricia. She tried offering Pixie a mix...she turned her nose up at it. She did eat some of the Friskies, by itself and I keep encouraging her to keep offering it to her because I know she just needs fuds right now. And no, you're not scaring me...I know this is a dire situation and I'm afraid things may be too late to turn her around. I'm holding out for a miracle, but without being right there to help feed or assist feed or whatever...I just don't know what else I can do for them.

Sending lots of vines and light to Pixie...I hope she will eat something. Does she like plain boiled chicken or anything like that? Or baby food? Billie usually likes low sodium ham (the Primrose brand is the lowest I have found) and the Beechnut beef & beef broth baby food. I hope she feels better soon.

Thank you, Deanna. I'm quite sure she hasn't tried anything else. She has been so brainwashed into only feeding y/d that just trying to convince her to feed a little Friskies was like pulling teeth. She's so afraid of the hyperT and the damage that will do. I keep trying to explain to her that not eating will do much more damage...feed her whatever she'll eat...ok, within bounds. higher protein, lower phosphorous would be nice. :nailbiting:

I understand the brainwashing...it is scary. I just remembered that my grandma's cat Max (GA) was hyperT and ate Friskies Special Diet. He did really well with that for years. So that was a good suggestion for Pixie. It sounds like you are doing everything you can to help :bighug:
