Jones has done fairly well on the 1 drop dose, so I just kept him on it. His vet has conceded and I now have the budesonide to give vs. the pred. He is on 1.25 mg of the prednisolone daily. The budesonide is 1 mg. So starting tomorrow I will be slowly switching him out. Switching off and on for 2 weeks and then just switching over to the budesonide. Will see how he does on that switch. In the meantime I will leave switching over of his food till a later date.

That said, we have had no more vomit lately. All 4 cats are getting a dose of probiotic every meal. And carefully watching and checking.

My CKD civvie- Kitty, has moved from stage 1 to stage 2. This was a little heart breaking as she seems to be holding her own. :( The vet advice was to add 100 ml of subq once a week to help her body flush. We have our lesson booked for Thursday. Not going to go well because she is like a 3kg cat that twists like a full grown gator. I have started putting a tsp or two of water into her KD wet food, plus added in some higher protein/lower phosphorus BFF to entice her to eat more. It looks like a slurry. She seems to be liking it so far and she seems to be eating a little more of her KD kibble (hate this but it is what she will eat) to go with it. I have been trying to read all the information on Tanya's website. I figured it was time I get a little more info so I know what to do, however she needs more cuddles I think, need to put the computer down at night instead of just reading.

Here is wishing a safe surf today.

Jones is looking pretty good. I hope the transition from pred to budesonide goes well. Do you have the pill version of budesonide? I liked that it was also much smaller pill than the pred, though it was even better when I went to liquid form.

I am surprised your Kitty was even diagnosed at stage 1 CKD - I think a lot don't get the diagnosis until they are stage 2. Stage 2 is still quite early in CKD and Neko was stable at stage 2 for a couple of years. I didn't give her fluids then as she got lots of water in her food and was a good drinker. Subq fluids usually aren't added to the picture until kitty goes to stage 3, or creatinine over 300. Even at stage 3/4, Neko didn't need the KD food, just low phos, high quality protein. Good thing that you are adding some high quality protein as weight loss can be a concern. Good luck finding an alternative to the dry food.

She was very ill. My sister had her then. They figured she may have gotten into some type of poison or maybe sever pancreatitis but they couldn't ever figure it out. She was on IV's, appetite stimulants, anti nausea and other meds for a week. Wasn't sure if she was going to make it. She eventually did a turn around. After it was determined her kidney's were compromised. I have been reading on Tanya's site and from what I get, I wouldn't say she is stage three but her numbers are not as good as they were. BUN is 15.2 (last year was 11.7), Creatinine is 210 (185 last year), Phosphorus 1.07. Which I think puts her solidly in stage 2. I haven't been watching her drinking and eating as much with the issues with Jones, and I guess I should have. I have noticed since adding in the BFF into the mix she eats more and there is more water being drank overall as everyone shares the water bowls. She has slowly last weight over the last two years - 3.45kgs (her highest) to 3.00 to 2.90. She is not a big kitty to start with. Almost teacup like. I was hoping to get her on a diet similar to Jones as she loves that stuff - really craves it really. I guess I will need to work on that. Read Tanya's site and go from there.

pill version of budesonide

I do and noticed it is small and smooth as right now he only gets a quarter of the pred which is all angles.

Sorry to hear that. Gizmo is stage 1/2 - there is a great support group for ckd for advise, labs, food etc. You need to request membership but they just want to keep the spam out.

Also the main site has a wealth of info.

Will do! I have found the website and been reading. There is a lot on there! I have requested membership. I guess right now I am just not sure how to help. I get the point of the subq and even at once a week - this will not make her happy. I don't think we need binders at this point. The B Vitamins hit my interest, if they help with appetite without stimulants. I have the famotidine but only give it when I know she is throwing up not as an every day thing. DH and I were looking at seeing if we could raise the feeders somehow - read that helps with eating.

She is good health otherwise - she cuddles, pees and has normal poops. Just the small appetite which is why I added the BFF to start with. Though there looks to be some even lower phosphorus food that I maybe try as well.

I don't know how to convert to US numbers but Gizmo's labs are on his SS under the labs tab. There is also a food tab that has what I am feeding and also a medication tab for the meds and supplements I give.

Thank you for that - I don't know how to convert either .

I think the BUN is higher than normal range and Creatinine is just below the high range of normal... more reading required because I don't know what to do for that. My gut reaction from what I ready so far was that her phosphorus wasn't that bad for the stage she is in.
