ALPHA TRAK2 PET METER

Yesterdays post:

Tuxie is now on cycle 4 of his dose increase of .25units to 5.74 units. For 6 days prior to the increase his numbers were always hitting some blues, which for an AT2 meter is very promising.Other than his numbers being not bad in the first cycle immediately following the increase, the numbers are high and flat. I am thinking the first set of numbers after the increase were still showing his dose effects at the 5.50 units before the depot had adjusted to the new dose.

How long would this be considered NDW or was this last increase not a good idea?? If I don't see any downward trend after today should I go back to the old dose?

Thanks for any input.

A couple of questions for you:

  • Have you started a new pen? If so, when? I'm wondering whether your insulin is getting toasty.
  • Has Tuxie's URI improved? Is he still sneezing? He may need a different antibiotic if this is the case.
  • Any chance he's getting into contraband carbohydrates?
Usually, NDW lasts no more than 2 or 3 cycles.

Tuxie's UTI and URI are good and have been for a number of days. His peeing problems and sneezing were gone within a couple of days after starting AB.

The Levemir insulin is just over a month old and is carefully refrigerated except when I am drawing it into the syringe. I have a thermometer I keep in the box I keep it in to always keep the temperature constant.

The only food that Tuxie would ever eat was wet food...he was never a dry food eater. There is no other food anywhere in the house that he could get into and the garbage is well locked up...although I would definitely notice if either cat had even tried to get into it..lol

So all in all there are no "outside" reasons for Tuxie's numbers to go up. That is why I am questioning about the higher numbers since the dose increase.

I would give him 6 cycles on this dose and then he may need another increase.

The latest research is that 1 in 3-4 cats has acromegaly, and since he's at a higher dose, we can guess that he *might* be one of them. If he has acromegaly and that is the reason for his need for a larger dose, the tumor can ramp up production and the insulin need can go up without any obvious reason. No way at this point to know if he has it or not, but just going by his BGs, if he doesn't get into green or low blue after 6 cycles on this dose, I'd increase.

Glad to hear that Tuxie's UTI and URI seemed to respond to the AB! So he is still not urinating as much normal? Does he get extra water with meals? Is he pooping normally? Could his teeth need cleaning?

I hope you are feeling better at this point- it is stressful to find a good doctor! Tiger's Creatine kinase level was twice what is normal awhile back! The vet who reported her results said it was probably just vet stress! When I read it happens when a cat is manhandled during a cysto, I just about lost it! I knew you are Tuxie's only Caregiver, so it is vital that you take care of yourself first! I am in the same situation, I can't afford to be sick! I would recommend one thing though, I know that Tiger's Vet Clinic has an excellent 24/7 Animal Hospital and Boarding service- so if I ever did get into a bind, I can take her there, they know how to test and give shots as they are all vet techs. Sending continuing healing vines for you and Tuxie!

Thank you.

I had Tuxie tested for acro and IAA and both tests came back negative. The numbers were doing not bad until the last dose increase. I will give it one more day and see if things settle in.
