4/3 Yoyo AMPS 105,

Looks like it's going to be a stellar day Yoyo!! Have fun!!:D
Leo looks magnificent!!.....You are so good with him and consistant.

Gonna ask you a question.....what do you feed Leo on a day like 3/31/20 when he was in the 50's?

I still panick with lower numbers and I still do NOT LIKE them:(.... Yo responds to the HC food DIFFERENTLY on different days....sometimes he reacts quickly and then other times I need to keep retesting and retesting because he still stays low after eating HC (19%) foods.

Sorry Debra, I probably should have recorded it.

When Leo’s in the 50’s, I would give medium LC, so Mideast Feast (7%) or Kawabooty (6%) or Steak Frites (6%). These ones seem to keep him surfing in the lowish greens. I give him those also when he’s drifting around in the 40’s but I keep an eye to make sure he comes up over 50.

On the 23rd when he went down to 39, I gave him Mediterranean Harvest which is 13%. That’s the highest carb I have that he will be guaranteed to eat. If that didn’t bring him up or if for some reason he refused to eat it, I would have used syrup but thank goodness he’s got a good appetite and that didn’t happen.

So far, I’ve never had trouble getting him to eat when he’s getting low but I have a stash of FF which he adores, just in case. I know he’d eat FF even if he was about to blow up!! The problem is FF gives him tummy troubles. In the past few years, I’ve tried transitioning to FF because he loves it and it’s less expensive and way easier for us to buy but when I mixed a bit in with his regular food he wouldn’t eat it. He knew there was a can of FF on the counter and "why wasn’t I just giving him that straight FF? Bad Mama!!"

When his numbers are higher, I give him Quick ‘N Quirky (0% carbs but 259 phos.) or Glam ‘N Punk (1%, 180 phos)

The high 40’s and 50’s don’t scare me very much anymore because I know Leo will eat and the carbs work well to bring him up a bit but not overly high.

I can imagine how scary it is when even 19% keeps Yoyo in numbers that worry you. And the fact that it doesn't send him to the moon seems to show that those carbs don't affect him that much.
Have you tried a drop of syrup or karo when that happens?

Thanks Sonia for breaking it all down for me. I'm gonna look up those foods for Mr Fancy Pants...he is so hard to please. He was brought up on dry food and about a tablespoon of fancy feast for a daily treat. Yo got diagnosed with hyperthyroid, I believe in 2016, near the end of 2017 I tried Y/D food and it really works. With no iron in it or very little iron in it- his thryoid level dropped A LOT. I was going to keep him on the dry food (y/d) and retest him often to see where his thyroid levels would go BUT THEN he got diagnosed with cancer on his paw/leg right before christmas of 2017. My world got turned upside down and of course his too!! The surgery took a lot out of him and I was glad to get him to eat anything. His thyroid level went all over the place, had to get him to recover from the drastic surgery. He did not pop right back as I was told he would. Even to this day, he does not walk normal. He walks on his shins, not his paws, very weird. I am very lucky that he made it through the surgery. Lots and lots of love and pampering and I got my boy back, but it was a hard-long journey. (And I have other pets also, at that time another kitty and my current 3 dogs, so they were very busy days).

So why am I rambling on here....oh yea....I was gonna say that Yo loves fancy feast also but way too high in phosphorus for him now that his kidney levels are getting higher:( so I'll look up the foods that Leo eats but they might be to high in phosphorus for Yoyo.

I have offered Yo karob syrup but I do not know what a little amount is....I get carried away and usually give about a teaspoon.
Sometimes he reacts to karob and goes up and sometimes I need to offer more. He can be really hard in getting his BG to come up once he hits below 40 so I try and keep him above 50. I'm always scared that he won't come up.

Sorry if I took your ear off ....stay safe and be well:bighug:

I hope you find the perfect recipe for Yo when he's in the 50's; sometimes just the proper dosing of HC MC and LC..... you seem to be very good at it !:) As for the syrup if you want quick results, just dip your finger in the syrup and rub it on the gums; this gives an immediate absorbtion but not for long, syrup is only a quick fix but so useful; that's what I use when Ti goes in the 20's and then I follow with carbs! When mixed with food, action on bg is much slower.
Have a great evening and stay safe! :bighug:

Thanks....I didn't know that rubbing syrup on the gums has a faster action....I will remember that!!

I hope the increase brings Ti-Mousse's BG #'s down....hope he is feeling better....is there a treatment plan for the lower ACRO?

How are you doing with supplies, are they hard to get? Do you go out? Florida now passed "Stay At Home"- only allowed to leave the house for the "essential" list.

For his ACRO, my first thing is trying to bring his numbers down by increasing insulin; if it doesn't work, I might eventually consider trying Cabergoline.

In Quebec, it's "Stay at home" since 3 weeks except for essentials; grocery stores and pharmacies have security guards at the door forcing you to wash your hands and use disinfectant before going in. All companies are closed except essential services, so not many people working; government will give them a financial help. People are going out for walks, jogging and biking; since 2 days police can give fines going from $1,000 to $6,000 if social distancing is not respected! In the stores, shelves were empty at the beginning as people were stocking up but it's better now; quantities are limited and of course, no sanitizer or alcohol available... Our Prime Minister in Quebec is doing a wonderful job in managing this crisis, he's on TV every day giving a complete status with the good things and the problems he's facing! Each province is different, it depends on their PM!

Hope everything is OK for you and you stay safe!!

Some days I just don't listen to the news because it is so depressing but when I do listen I don't hear really anything about Canada. Do you have areas (clusters) where more people have gotten the virus? Are your Hospitals in as much chaos as the US hospitals? NY got hit very bad, the hospital situation is just terrible, they don't have rooms to treat the sick and they didn't have enough ventilators. They got more but I believe the situation is still chaotic.

Scary times and learning times, wish things were back to normal.

I am with my family and we do not leave the house. Food and supplies are delivered by instacart. Cleaning the food and supplies is a full time job in itself. Paranoia can really set in.
My BIL canceled his follow up tests for now. He would have to be at the medical center almost all day and that is much too long of a time to be out of the house and to be exposed to the virus.

About half of the cases in Quebec are in Montreal, which is our biggest city (4.2M people). As for the hospitals, enough beds and ventilators for now, but hardly any respirator left... and they're not easy to get....!! I read about NY... terrible!
Funny thing I never thought I would see: my husband had his early medical checkup appointment; it was done over the phone with his doctor !!! :)

Take good care of yourself! I just finished a puzzle and I'll start another soon; it keeps your mind busy!

Ti-Mousse just got a GREEN finally ... I'M SO HAPPY!!:D
