He is still cuddling at night. His appy seems to have improved. Friskies Maritimers Catch is out for now. He is into the Turkey and Giblets. And the Rawz! He actually was willing to eat it out of the can last night when he wouldn't touch his dinner.

So swapped out the Maritimer's for the Turkey and made him a new bowl of food.

He ate all of his day food and most of his night food last night.

So I know I am missing his usual nadir time tests which I will try to catch today. I was hoping this new dose would bring him down and we seem to be seeing more blue but....I know patience. Give it this week and go from there.

Hey Tracey, question for you. Maybe I had false info, but I thought that if kitty has IBD they had to eat a novel protein. I've been trying but Rufus won't eat. We've settled on chicken, just because he'll kind of it eat it and it's a single protein. So question is, if Jones is eating the friskies wont that make his IBD worse and then in turn cause inflammation and then not wanting to eat later? Or does the pred and cerenia help with that?

Yes, we tried the novel protein as suggested. He will not eat them. None of the canned stuff I bought (venison, buffalo, lamb, duck) Now he will eat the duck and wild boar freeze dried treats.

So if they will not eat it...it isn't good for them. They need to eat.

The Friskies is not my idea...he went on a Rawz food strike so I went searching for something he will eat. He settled on the Friskies - escpecially the Mariners. I worried about that because Salmon and Tuna he loves but it doesn't love him. Like me and beef and diary. And I think, yes, it did irritate his bowels and now he doesn't want it. He seems to be ok to go back to the Rawz and I hope to gradually limit the amount of Friskies Turkey that he is getting. It isn't an issue of quality to me so much (though I don't think it is great) but not knowing what all that mystery meat is.

I really like the Rawz. There is no gums.

That all said, I hope to try doing the homemade (maybe the raw) again. So I can control the ingredients. That is way more work but if I can get him changed over it would be worth it.

The pred and cerenia help but if there is a flare - he is off. I don't think vets understand though how painful it can feel (I know from my own experience). I wonder if have a pain med around would help get over the flare quicker?

Did you hear back about that second interview yet?

Rufus is pretty much refusing all wet food now, but did eat some yesterday 2 times. Now today of course he wont eat it. So I tried Fancy Feast fish and he wont eat that. Gave up and gave Atopica and ondansetron. He came up stairs and was sniffing food. Put out old can of Friskies I had stored and he ate 1/3 of a can, and then went ate a little dry. This is all such a mystery and project on what meds when and what quantity. I might try onda 3x a day. He is getting 8mg now 2x a day, I might try 4mg 3x a day. IM vet is no help. I do think the pepcid is helping him, but not sure why he needs that?

He's been eating dry kibble pretty much. 30% carbs. As soon as I mix it with ANY amount of Dr Elseys or YA to reduce the carbs he refuses it all :banghead:. I actually think he could tolerate the dry food pretty well BG wise, up until the Atopica kicks in.

I picked him up yesterday, which he used to love, and not so much anymore. He still likes to be held, just doesn't enjoy the picking up part. Probably form tummy hurting? Wondering now if I should be giving gabapentin too. Such a mystery.

Yeah, heard back Friday am about job. HR wrote back "We were fortunate to have the opportunity to interview with many qualified candidates. Although your background and accomplishments are impressive, we regret we cannot offer you a position at this time." I ended up writing an email to the guys laying it out how I think I would be perfect for the job, but haven't heard back. I'm sure I won't. Some said to do it, others said absolutely not. I guess I felt I had nothing to lose, but didn't want to sound too desperate, even though I am :) Just such a bummer. Would have been PERFECT for me.

Would have been PERFECT for me.

That job is there. My DH was two years! Isn't the money he wants but it is a good place and decent pay. Better than zero I keep telling him.

That is too bad on the second interview. I was having positive thoughts about it for you.

Yeah, IBD is just a drain on the caretaker. Have you checked out the IBDkitty website?

Yeah, anything would be better then zero at this point. Also, going stir crazy too. I was hoping for at least a 2nd interview, at least to get a shot of confindence in this whole ordeal. I think a lot of it luck. I'll just keep pressing on...

I did a little looking around on IBDkitty. That's where they said that the Atopica was being used by some. I'll go give it some more read today. Does jones have the classic nausea signs of sniffing and walking away? It's like Rufus wants to eat, but is just grossed out? That why I am wondering about the app stimulant. Not sure he needs it if he already wants to eat.

Yes, he will go to the bowl and sniff and then just turn away sometimes. There is no lip smacking but he does loaf when uncomfortable.

Do you use Cerenia every day? If not for a week give it every day. See if his eating will improve. If not, try Ondansetron for a week. Keep it consistent. See if his eating improves. In the meantime...keep the food the same. Take notes. You will see a bunch in Jones' SS. If that doesn't work, then try an appy stim with the Ondansetron. If that doesn't work switch out the Ondansetron to Cerenia with the appy stim. Keep notes on what happens. He might need both naseau meds and the appy stim to get started.

Once you have him eating good (the stuff you want him to eat) then try changing the food. SLOWLY. Add a tsp of something new to the old food on the side. It might take him a bit to eat some. If he doesn't try the next thing. Very slowly change things out. Keep notes - failed at that the first time I tried raw, so going back to it.

He's been on Ondansetron daily for a couple months. I just recently increased it to 2x daily. Cerenia he was on for about 2 weeks, and worked somewhat. Pepcid seems to be thing thing that works the most. I see no ryhme or reason to this at all. What works 1 day, wont work the next. Thats the hard part. I'll try adding the cerenia to him daily again and see what happens. Thanks :)
