Jacqui here again, Dave's had a pretty uneventful and good week, and I'm here to see where I should go from here.

Firstly, I managed to get some syringes that match an insulin ruler. I've been really struggling to keep his 0.75u consistent, and so swapping over should help me be more accurate. The thing that's worrying me is that if my dosing's been way off with the original needles (which it almost definitely is) he'll get a big increase/decrease that he doesn't need. Any advice?

Secondly, he's had a strange day that's got me wondering. At +2 he was lower than his AMPS, then higher at +4, then slightly lower again by +6. After eating at +6 he normally spikes massively, but today he barely moved. Is it possible that his nadir is changing? Or could it be that he's found some food somewhere - maybe a mouse - and eating this caused the weird rise at +4? Someone who doesn't normally look after him did it today, and I'm wondering if there could be something different that caused this. Or am I worrying too much?

Behavior-wise, he's as ravenous as ever, but he seems to have mellowed out with the other cats a bit. I'm really happy with his greens, too.

If a change I was about to make worried me such as a dose increase, I would sooner make it on days I knew I could test all day or for several days in a row. So basically for me that would usually be after work on Friday. In which case I would have all weekend to monitor better if I was worrted about the change.

Hi Jacqui,
good see Dave doing so well!
I am posting link HERE for dosing with calipers - great video - it seems to be good way to get consistent doses in between the marks on the syringes. I struggled with it myself - going to get calipers to use at home.
Is it possible that his nadir is changing?
It is. My cat recently changed to being late nadir kitty.
At +2 he was lower than his AMPS, then higher at +4, then slightly lower again by +6. After eating at +6 he normally spikes massively, but today he barely moved.
ECID but when my cat's +4 is higher after lower +2 which normally an indication that the cycle is to be active I blame bouncing. Maybe someone who watched over him today didn't notice some food contraband - a mouth like you said or something else? The lower +6 after meal - hmm...- I don't know.. It's odd if's eaten the usual meal and didn't vomit..Hopefully someone can cast a light here. I would just keep watching him the way you do. :)
Best of luck to both of you.

I am a big advocate of using calipers.

Another thing you could do is count the drops from the old syringe and then do the same with the new to see where the same dose is on the new syringes.

ETA - btw, very nice cycle! :D

I'm so happy with how he's going! Counting the drops is a really good idea. I think I might wait until the end of next week to make any changes; I've got heaps going on at school and won't be able to watch him as closely as I'd like to.
