GA 5/27 Eegie AMPS= "Hi" - this is the end

Eegie's having many problems - going to vet to test potassium levels - but BG read HI twice on 2 strips. did 1.75 (instead of 1.5), but see what vet has to say in 1 hour...

He's not walking, hence the potassium test.

 

Have you or the vet checked for ketones as well?

My guess is that Eegie's numbers are up due to the Nutrical. The first ingredient in it is corn syrup. Other ingredients include malt syrup and cane molasses. You're kitty is on a sugar high! That said, for a cat that's been in blue numbers, I'd be thinking in terms of an infection. Hopefully, the vet will test for a UTI (by a cystocentesis and a culture and sensitivity test) and do some blood work.

Eegie's BG wasn't the biggest problem - it is a combination of many things, his kidneys BUN is WAY too high, his breathing is labored, he's shutting down. Any prophylactic treatment will maybe give him another 24 hours. Right now, he's relaxing at home, being loved and hugged (but he doesn't even feel well enough for hugs - and this is my snuggle boy). This afternoon, he will be sent ahead held in my arms. My heart is breaking.

 

Oh, Stephanie, I am so very sorry. You are doing a very generous and loving thing, but I can only imagine how it is tearing you apart. You are in my prayers.

I am so sorry that Eegie has reached the time when it is the kindest act of love to let him cross the bridge. You have tried so hard and done everything possible to make Eegie's time comfortable. I've been reading all your kind words and thoughts for hours. I just haven't been able to respond - to really let myself think about it.

Thank you all - thank you FDMB - thanks so so many individuals for your help and support. I do know I did the right thing. Now, I just have to learn how to live with it. That Eegie shaped hole in my heart won't fill quickly - and probably never fully at all. He was extraordinary, and although my heart hurts, I'm very grateful to you all. Thank you.

Thank you. I don't have an empty house - I have 2 other cats, and 2 dogs - yet it feels so empty. He wasn't outside my shower watching me today, ready to lap up the water. He's not jumping onto my lap when I'm on the couch...

I've had a LOT of losses in my life - parents, other pets, friends, other family... There's a special pain in this one.

I'm going to go through some of my meds - I'll have some for others that may need them. I just can't look at them at this time, yet...
