It's been another nice day for China...and I'm so glad she didn't try anything silly!

Have had one of those crazy busy days (I knew it was going to be) and at the last minute had to add a trip to the vet for my DM's cat, Miss Kitty

DM called me last night saying she was limping on her left paw so I had to get her in and I feel so sorry for her! She had a nail that had grown completely into her paw! I see her all the time and hadn't seen any sign of limping or anything, but when I saw the size of the nail they pulled out of her I felt so bad! It was probably at least 1/3" long (the part that was IN her paw)

They cut it out and trimmed the rest of her claws, gave her a shot of antibiotic and anti-inflammatory and sent her back home. I have to go back Wednesday morning and give her another shot too (since I knew there was no way DM could pill her with the arthritis she has in her hands)

The nearest vet is the same one that originally diagnosed China (the guy that I hate) but I didn't have much choice if I wanted her seen today. Really upsets me how greedy this man is....The techs came in to trim the nails (including the really bad one) and he finally walks in, takes a quick look and says "that's going to need some antibiotics", gave her the shot and said "well you don't need me here anymore"....and charged us $40 for a "comprehensive exam". He didn't even touch her, much less do anything else except give one shot!

Oh well....$100 total later and I'm hoping poor Miss Kitty feels better soon. That had to hurt her! I don't know how she kept from limping on it sooner!

Hope you're all having a better Monday than I've had so far! At least I can be happy with China!!

Hi Chris :bighug:

China's looking good as usual. I hope Miss Kitty feels good on her toes again soon. Pimp has 2 toes that are trying to do the same thing, but I keep them trimmed back best as possible. Is there a reason that happens? It's the outside on one of his fronts and the inside on the other. o_O

Poor Miss Kitty. I had one of my civvies get a nail like that. After they trimmed it and sent her home, the vet told me to soak her paw in warm water and epsom salt to help it heal.

Nice numbers for China today.

I Hope Miss Kitty heals quickly. Poor kitty: that must have hurt!

Yo Deputy China, nice work in the lagoon today. I'm high on my trip bounce, but I'm still watching the lagoon. Did you like the ferry ride today? A bit of a change from the lagoon.

I hope Ms. Kitty feels better.

I have price envy. I pay $90 for a vet visit. My vet does some extras without charging when he can. I shudder to think what an annual visit would be. Mine are billed as follow up.

China looks great on the reducie.

Nice surfing today, China. Sorry Harvey didn't come help you at the lagoon. I have hopes he's pull the night shift.

Poor Miss Kitty! That happened to Kisa, too, and I felt so guilty for not catching it. We didn't trim his nails as often as the others because he HATED being held and having anything done to him. The vet told me not to use clay based litter until it healed, to keep the dust out of it, so we used the newspaper kind for a couple of weeks. Sending healing vines for that paw.

I wouldn't mind paying for it if the vet actually LOOKED at the cat!! Miss Kitty has been a very healthy cat all her life and hasn't been seen for 10 years .....I would have thought that maybe a "comprehensive exam" would have included maybe a quick listen to her heart and lungs, a quick look in her mouth and a general "once over"....Not a glance at a paw (that he never touched), a stab in the rump and a quick exit out of the exam room

Hi Andy--
the inside nail never hits the ground or gets "filed " down from routine stretching/scratching.... it just keeps growing with no interference .
We groom many dogs and cats with curled nails...it seems a relief when it is cut-
