Well Mama is much happier with today's numbers than she was with yesterdays! China reported to duty at the lagoon early and has been there all day (so far):D:D:D

Guess she knew LagoonMeister Rusty would be trip-bouncing again and figured she should show up early!

In just as fabulous news, last night I finally got a return phone call from one of the plumbers I called but when I talked to him then, he said he wasn't allowed to work within city limits because he didn't have some kind of license the city requires (for tax on materials or something). We talked awhile longer and I told him what all I'd tried so far and the fact that I'm disabled and on a limited income and he said "well, maybe I can come by and take a look tomorrow around noon"

At about 11:30 this morning there was a very gentle knock on my door...a little old man in overalls said "Hi, I'm Doug and we talked last night. I thought I'd take a look and see if there's something I can do to help you". As we talked, I learned he was 80 years old!

After taking everything apart under the sink and working for 3 hours, I finally have working kitchen sink drains!! The clog wasn't in any of the pipes under the sink...it was further down between the floor and the basement in the pipe running through the wall, so it was a really BAD clog!
He also put a new flapper in the toilet so it'd stop running

After all that work, he absolutely refused to take a dime no matter how I offered it...I even said I'd just "accidentally" drop some money in his truck window and he just laughed and said no. He's one of the many Mennonites around this area and said that God says we're supposed to help our neighbors in need, and that's what he was doing and told me to thank Him. He then invited me to come to his church (I had to decline since I usually take DM to church on Sunday)

Off he went, with my sincere gratitude and thanks....and now that I think about it, since he wouldn't take any money for all that work, I think I'll send a donation to his church in his name. I'd feel a lot better about it!!
Anyway, so far, good day all around here....Let's hope it continues!!

So glad you gave your kitchen drains working again. Be careful. I'm thinking China plans on looking for sharks soon.

What a wonderful story about the Mennonite Plumber! Bless his heart and such a nice thing for you to do a donation at his church. Who would of thought that your area would have Mennonites. My area is huge for them. There are lots of really good people here on Earth still. :)

Nice cycle for little Miss China. Bubba was busy with her at the Lagoon today too, all but 3 hours when he needed to wax his board on the beach. ;)

That is awesome Chris! That man exemplifies his beliefs 100%! I think a donation is wonderful! Glad you have an unclogged drain and closed flapper!

We have lots of them....their farms surround us and all our roads have "Share the road" signs with a picture of a horse and buggy. If you're on the bigger roads, it's not that big a deal, but with most of the roads around here being 2 lane, no shoulder, hilly and curvy, there's lots of "no passing" zones

But from mid-March to mid-November, we have fresh produce available all over too! It's great being able to get tomatoes in March. They start them in greenhouses so they get them early. If we had to wait for "normal" circumstances, we would only have them from late June-September!

We have both traditional and "progressive" Mennonites....the traditional ones still use the horse/buggy, have no electricity, wear the traditional dress (and all men must wear hats) and pretty much stay to themselves (although our WalMart does have a hitching rail for tying the horses up on!) The more progressive ones drive and dress more normally and a lot of them work in jobs like construction, plumbing, electrical (as well as regular types of jobs like everyone else) ...but they don't generally advertise so it's mostly "word of mouth". I got this mans name and number from a lady working at the drive through at the bank yesterday .

I definitely consider myself blessed to have him be willing to come help me out. I was really worried about how much it was going to cost me. Sending a donation to his church just seems like the right thing to do considering he wouldn't let me pay him!

That is really something! We have so many in this area and we don't have any hitching posts!

I just never thought of them being in your area.

Our Mennonites need to get on the stick!

China's back on duty in the lagoon after taking a short shift in the lifeguard tower

All you kitties surf safely tonight!!

Mama on the other hand, is trying to catch up on cleaning and dishes that haven't gotten done while the sink was out of commission....You have no idea how much you depend on something until you don't have it!

The sound of running water is a glorious thing to hear.....LOL

What a lovely experience, and just what you needed. My sister lives in Ohio in a rural area, and they have lots of Mennonites and Amish around. They are wonderful, kind, hardworking people and she has had some great interactions with them. I agree that we need more like them in this country. Their Walmart has a hitching post, too, as do many of their local businesses.

My feelings exactly about my microwave! I totally get how delighted you are to have this issue resolved.

China has gotten quite a workout today. Harvey was watching over the lagoon with her today, but looks like he spent the evening in the lifeguard tower (although he might have been in for a quick dip while we were out). They make a great team.

Enjoy your now functional sink and quiet toilet! Harvey will be looking for China at the lagoon tomorrow.
