Good morning!

The barrel on our new syringes are larger than normal so I'm measuring 3 units but I believe it's 3.25.

Starting this Thursday morning, Leo’s Vet Tech will be testing and shooting for the five days that we’ll be away so I need to make sure there are enough syringes that are the same so his dose is consistent.

So today at some point, I plan on opening all the packages of syringes and comparing them.

I couldn't live without my calipers anymore - each box of syringes seems to have different measurement lines - the calipers insure the same consistent dose day in and day out. Harbor Freight has inexpensive lightweight ones that work perfectly - digital and everything for under $15. I bought a set of bigger fancier calipers from Amazon - but they're heavy - I keep them for back up - but use the HF ones daily - they fit into her kit nicely too.

Thanks Sue, I found Harbor Freight Pittsburgh 6 inch digital. Are those the ones you have?

Going forward I'm definitely going to be using them because I don't trust this brand of needles anymore. It's the first time that I'm aware of that there's been such a discrepancy but it's freaking me out because we're leaving Thursday. :banghead:

I hate how different syringes can be. I hope you can find enough for the vet tech. Are they the same brand?
Thanks Carla, I'm hoping when I open them all and compare them, that they're at least all the same. Yes they are the same brand I always buy. It was a brand new package in a brand new box!

I'm using calipers like these also and I bought two! With all syringes having different lines markings, you can't go wrong with calipers and it's so easy to adjust dosing (fat, skinny, very small), it's always consistent! I will never shoot without my calipers!

What kind of syringes are you using? If it's the BD Ultrafine II, I have the measurement conversion chart to use.

Have a good day sorting your syringes!

Yes, the BD Ultrafine II. That's great, thanks, send me the conversion chart when you have a minute. I was going to order them but since I'm going to Cornwall today, I'll pick some up at Home Depot.

No sorting syringes today! lol! :p:p:p

I TOO learned the hard way about how different syringes can be and BD is very inconsistant- the lines are awful and it holds extra insulin in the hub. Yoyo would go very low at times for no reason until I discovered the problem with the hub. I also learned to use a caliper real quick and I never shoot without using it now. When I switched syringes, I didn't have this issue again.

I know! It's crazy. You'd think that with something as serious as a syringe the companies that make them could get their act together.
They're probably in cahoots with the caliper companies, lol! ;)

I hope the callipers work better for you and that you don’t have to open all of the syringes. How annoying would that be!?

I think you may have already mentioned it but what are you doing for your 5 day trip? Is it also a Canada day vacation like mine?

Wendy was already using calipers with BD, so she gave me the equivalent starting number. I did the calculations from 0.25 unit to 14.75 units in the SS attached. I print the SS and leave it in the calipers casing and put the date when i change dosing!
Enjoy your day in Cornwall !

Is anyone Happy with the syringes they use? I've got Monoject & they have that tiny hub that can hold insulin:arghh: The lines are clear to see & I'm using calipers so I guess I'll stick with them unless anyone has a better Syringe??
I've tried several other brands & they all seem to have problems.
They're made for Humans & the tiny discrepancies aren't as important as with the smaller dose for a cat. I'd sure like to know if anyone finds a Better Syringe!
