What a nice surfing day yesterday for Yoyo!
Hope pain meds help; don't worry in advance, as she said it could be just a little cracked tooth problem! You'll see soon!:)
Enjoy this beautiful day with your little boy!

Nice start today Yoyo! I hope he stops grinding his teeth soon :) do you think you’ll try the Pepcid?

OKAY... I am now definitely with you when you question whether there it is a cracked tooth, TOO! If Yoyo is displaying what you see in video of Nelli- it’s definitely, I say this with confidence, acid reflux. Easily treated :).
Please keep in mind... however much we like and respect our vets they are not always right, too often trying to eliminate possibilities with unnecessary treatments along the way :woot:... :stop:. Educate yourself- I will help you as much as I can :bighug:.

I appreciate you reaching out to me and informing me of this fantastic information.
I know that you wrote that you give or gave 1/2 pill pepcid before meals. I feed Yoyo at PS, +1,+2,+3 and +4 2x a day. That is 10 meals per day. Wondering how to give the pepcid for it to be beneficial. Probably before the PS meal 2x day?? Any advice?

@Debra and Yoyo ... went back and read condo from day at dentist... dr. Peak said: I have seen many times, cats brought in for potential dental issues, when in fact acid reflux.

First off- make sure you buy Pepcid AC- don’t remember the other type of Pepcid; just make sure it’s this one.
As far as you are concerned regarding numerous meals a day… You only give a half tablet once a day. (I suggest doing this either before first meal in morning or before last meal at night). It will have an effect throughout the day :).
Also let me warn you… This isn’t a quick fix :stop:. I got so, so very frustrated thought OK one more vet who I don’t trust his opinion .
It will be very tempting for you to not have the patience required and fall back to your vet who is suggesting other possibilities/treatments. Have patience :cat: :bighug:.

Lovely cycles yesterday with just a wee bounce today. I hope he’s settling into this dose better.

I’d like to give another opinion on giving Pepcid habitually. In the case of a cat with Stage 3 CKD who has an acid tummy that can’t be resolved with slippery elm syrup, one might need to try anti acids. However, when you give an anti acid, it cuts the acid way back; cats have high acidity in their tummies to digest their food. It’s much higher than humans. By giving an anti acid, you can be reducing his ability to begin the digestion process because you are raising the pH of the stomach.

I’d be sure he actually has the symptoms; just pawing at the mouth tells me nothing and usually GERD pets will have many other symptoms and paw more at the next instead of mouth. Remember ECID.

I’d like to offer you some interesting reading on alternatives to anti acids:

Here is a great video by Dr. Becker on GERD.

Nelli Amylase value came back very high, on her last two labs. I asked Marji @@Marje and Gracie because I like you (deep in back of my mind) though this might be related to the mouth antics- take a look at Nelli labs on SS... Amylase :woot:
I know Marji has here sister in town until Monday which means you might want to/have to wait for her response to this until next week

BTW, I don’t know if you know this but Margi is a Biologist, they one– they only, go to person when it comes to deciphering labs, drugs, etc.
Us again, so very blessed to have her :bighug:
