Yesterday

Another ugly AMPS, but at least he came down. Ate only a little of his t/f/s meal, but it might have been the flavor. I offered a different one for breakfast and he went CPC after three visits to his dish. :)

Harvey gave me quite a scare this morning. He went upstairs before breakfast for his usual drink and petting session. When I got up there (wanting to test him), I saw there was blood on his nose! I wiped it off and there was more. It looked like it was coming out of his nose and I freaked out (that's what happened to Cinco that lead to his final cancer diagnosis). I didn't know who to call - UCD or regular vet. I tested him, was a bit relieved at the number, and followed him downstairs to have another look. That's when I noticed the left nostril looked extra pink and just a little raw - as though it had been scraped. There was no more blood, but the underside looked like it was still bleeding just a little. I suspect he hit it on something, possible when jumping up to the countertop. I put down the phone and decided to just keep a close eye on it to make sure my suspicion is correct. I'm still shaking a little, but I'm not as scared now that I think there is a fairly benign explanation. His ophthalmologist's office returned my call first thing this morning and he has an appointment with them at 3:30, so unless he starts bleeding again, I'll just take him to that and ask Dr. C to give me his opinion on whether or not it's anything to be concerned about.

The NASCAR race yesterday was rained out (allowing me time to paint the pantry). They are underway now, so I'm checking out to watch the race and try to chill a bit. With luck we'll get back from the Oph Vet in time to head for bowling in one car, instead of Mark having to leave and me to follow.

Sending healing vines to all in need and hugs to all their beans. :bighug: Extra vines go to @Mandarin'sMom. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

OMG your heart must of been pounding to have a tape replayed in your head from Cinco. Tricia, I so hope he just scraped it on something and that is all it is. Please keep us posted!

At least one of us isn't too stressed. He does have possession of my chair, however. So far no more blood. :nailbiting:

Yikes on the blood - that would be so scary. :bighug: Mr. Harvey looks like he's the boss of the house in that pic. :p

Paws crossed for good ophto vetty visit.

That would have scared the pants off me! Hope his visit goes well. He is a beautiful cat!

hoping he was just scratching an itch and used too much toe nail....
i know how every little thing just gets our imagination running fast and wild.....

Scritches, my man!

Thanks for the visits. Gotta go jump in the shower prior to hauling Harvey off to see Dr. C. No more blood. I'm much less stressed now.

He did back off on the food, so I gave him his tummy meds. Maybe a mistake, since we're leaving in an hour for the vet. Hopefully they kick in sooner and he eats before we go (anti-jinx, but he usually doesn't get car sick).

At least he stuck his toes in the lagoon! :D

Yikes on the blood. I'm glad you haven't seen any more, hopefully it was just a scratch.

Good luck at the optho! And good work, Harvey, on dipping your toes in the lagoon. :cat:

@granadilla, you and I appear to be polar opposites! :joyful: Have you finished the elimination diet yet? Results?

Thanks for asking! I'm still in the process of adding foods. I've added eggs, butter, almonds and wine so far. Tonight I'm adding red peppers (nightshade vegetables apparently can be inflammatory), then on Saturday I can finally have cheese!! (Butter fat is supposedly tolerated more easily than other dairy so that's why it's added separately.) So far I've had no negative reactions to foods. (I don't think I will, but we'll see.) Did you identify dairy as your problem food?

Yikes....if it ain't one thing, it's another. SO glad this seems to be a non-event....sending tons of good vetty vines!!

Tricia, I'm sorry you had that scare. I'm glad it seems to be he just bumped or scratched his nose. Sending prayers. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

So glad the bleeding stopped quickly, but I know it had to be very scary for you Tricia!!

Hope the vetty visit comes back with good news!!

Yo Harvey....hope dat da trip to da doctor person doesn't keep you from heading down to da lagoon tonight!! Mama says I gots to lose some weight, so I need somebody to helps me swim laps!

Thanks for all the visits, everyone. Sorry I didn't update sooner. As predicted, we got home just in time for t/f/s, and then Mark and I were off to the bowling alley. My tablet has been acting strange lately, so I couldn't get on the Board while I was there (time for a visit to Verizon).

So Dr. C confirmed that Harvey's nose has "an abrasion" and did not appear to be anything to worry about. Whew! The pressure in his eyes is still good, but they are still very dry, and that could be why he's rubbing them. He wants me to double the number of times I put the lubricating gel in them (Harvey will be thrilled ). He also found a "nick" in the inner eyelid on Harvey's right eye. It is a mystery how it got there. He didn't think it was self inflicted - said cats tend to be pretty good at not poking themselves in the eye. He said the only times he seen something like this, it was caused by another cat. Well, not this time! Anyway, the eye itself is fine, so that's a relief. He added some antibiotic eyedrops (four times a day, oh boy!) for that eye, and we go back next Wednesday for a follow up.

Harvey was a very good boy, as usual, at the vet, and was pretty good in the car both ways, too. He even came up and climbed back in his carrier as we pulled up to the office! He did make me chase him to put him in the carrier when it was time to leave home, though. He has a reputation to uphold, after all! :p

He was very hungry when we got home from the Ophth Vet - hadn't eaten before we left and had Cypro onboard. I let him eat, even though it was 15 minutes till t/f/s. He ate all his dinner, but only about 1/3 of the food we left in his feeder. He hasn't eaten since we got home about 20 minutes ago. I don't think he wants to give up the lion's share of "our" chair!

Icky PMPS, but being a gentleman, he obeyed China's summons and is down at the lagoon now. :D I hope the antibiotic eyedrops won't make his numbers go even higher. I can't remember if I noticed a difference when Cinco was on some.

then on Saturday I can finally have cheese!!
I'm sure you're counting the minutes! Do you already have your meals planned?

Butter fat is supposedly tolerated more easily than other dairy
That's interesting, and to confirm that, butter doesn't appear to bother me at all. Ice cream is a little bit of an issue, but it's cheese that really gets me. So yes, I'd say that's my problem food.

I'm going to try to catch up on what everyone's been doing, but I can't stay up as late as usual because we have to go to a funeral in the morning - the father of Mark's best friend. At least the temps are a bit less brutal - mid 90s tomorrow. It'll be a military service, so at least part of it is outside. Burial is later, as he's being cremated.

So tomorrow's condo will be late (no surprise there). Till then....:bighug:

Intereting on the allergies. I have a friend who can do butter (thank goodness as we often bake dessert for them) and yogurt and hard cheeses like parmesan, but no other dairy. Glad you've discovered what you have to avoid. Guess that means garlic pretzel bites are back on the menu?
