I’ve had a couple missed shots recently again. I’ve been having flare ups and the pain is worse in the morning. just explaining the little holes in her SS and care.

Anyway.
I would like to find a lamb or venison (maybe) limited ingredient food besides the ziwipeak because I think it keeps backing her up. Her poops come out in a huge diameter when they do and that looks painful, uncomfortable. I spend about $200/month on that for her, and I have one month of food left for her in ziwipeak lamb. I would like to search around and find another one I can try adding/switching her over to, to see if it helps. I already can’t afford what we are getting, so it needs to be no more than that per month. She goes through 4 cases of 12 6oz cans in a month.

What else is out there? The ziwi was almost perfect for her but it’s just not working quite right. I have been adding pumpkin. It is still just not working. She had a milder bit of constipation then finally had a bowel movement Friday night but no more since then.

also, ignoring my missed shot mornings, I feel like she no longer regulates in a way that makes sense. I truly do wonder if switching to Levemir would be worth trying, but is there a lot of new stuff to learn? Also is it more costly than Lantus? We get assistance for her insulin and if it is drastically more in cost then I would hate to take away from what DCIN can do for other cats.

all around, even when her insulin doses are not being missed for awhile, I feel like she is “off” somehow. She had a b12 shot in March, perhaps it is time for another?

you ever feel like something is wrong but you don’t have all the exact evidence to explain what? I deeply wish I understood what to do or could get her to a more specialized vet. Sigh.

Have you tried Nature's Variety Instinct? Unfortunately their venison also has pork and the lamb also has turkey. My allergy cat can do those proteins too.

I just did a search through Dr. Lisa's list, and it's amazing and sad how many brands have dropped their pure lamb or venison product.:( Nature's Variety seems to have dropped their LID lamb. :( Hounds and Gatos has a lamb one. In Canada we have access to Canada Fresh lamb, which you can also get through Chewy's. I found it much easier to source raw venison and lamb.

Levemir cost is very similar to that of Lantus - I think most people here get it from Marks, but there is a regular on Supply Closet who sells it too. Levemir onset is "typically" at +4 and nadir around +8. Of course ECID, but a couple hours later for both than Lantus. That doesn't always work with all schedules. For me it was harder to get a meaningful before bed test, cause bed time was before onset, but nadir was around the time I got up for my workout so was better.

B12 shots are typically once a month or more often. If her B12 is low, I'd get another one. It's something you should be able to give at home.
