An update... Monoject, UltiCare, SureComfort and BD Half Unit Syringes...

Does anyone have any experience using the Ulticare U-100 VetRx HALF UNIT Syringes? ADW Diabetes online has them. I’ve been using BD but have been having a lot of difficulties with the marking being all over the place (way off in some cases). Are the Ulticare ones any better? If so- I'll like to give them a try. Does anyone know of any others that have more consistent half unit markings?

Derek's normal dose varies between 1/2 and 3/4 unit... only thing is the markings on the BD (that have half unit markings) syringes can and have been off as much as 1/4 unit... this seems like a lot... the actual dose could be off by as much as 50% if I just used the markings. I do compare them to a know syringe... but this is time consuming and still not very accurate. Anyone else have this problem with the BD syringes? Any recommendations on more accurate ones?

Monoject syringes are pretty decent. I also use calipers and most of them in the box are accurate.

 

ADW also has CarePoint syringes with half-unit markings. I don't know how accurate either of the brands are. I used the Ulticare U40 syringes when my cat was on Vetsulin, and they were fine, but I didn't use the ones with half-unit markings. Please keep us posted on which ones you choose and how well they are marked! I will also be buying syringes soon so this information would be helpful!

 

I too have found the markings on syringes to be really off and it doesn't seem to matter which brand we try. So we bought digital calipers and use them to measure every dose.

I'm going to call ADW this afternoon to order... not sure what at this point... maybe I can talk them into sending smaller quantities of each brand that has the U100 syringes with half unit markings... probably not?

Any other suggestions/recommendations... before I order would be greatly appreciated.

I will keep everyone posted on what I order and how they work out.

We've found enough with good markings to set the digital calipers. I don't know if you've used a really short needle before... you need to know that these have a really short needle. They may have longer needles with the half unit markings that you could get instead. Needle length is, I think, a personal preference.

OK- couldn't decide on which to order- so I ordered all three- Monoject, UltiCare and SureComfort.

By the way- the UltiCare come 60 in the box... the other 2 have 100 in the box.

With the free shipping these didn't cost much more than just the BD's.

Hopefully the online order for all 3 goes thru- since these require a prescription.

I'm late to the party but I wanted to say I have a really hard time with the CarePoint U-100 syringes. The air bubbles are stubborn and love to cling to the sides. I give 1U and I constantly have problems with the air bubble running from the plunger to the needle along the side of the syringe... it is maddening! I used to use the CarePoint U-40 syringes and never had this problem.

 

Good to know... hopefully one of the three brands I ordered will work out... I know the markings on the BD syringes are very inconsistent... and sometimes the markings are actually at an angle

 

An update- for those that are interested…

I got my order of the Monoject, UltiCare and SureComfort syringes about a week ago.

Of the three the one that stands out- big time- are the Monoject’s. The markings on these are great- they are finely and clearly printed with the top (zero) line actually lining up with where the plunger ends up. The thickness of the plunger is also thinner than the other 2 which makes measuring the dose accurately much easier. I’ve now used these about 6 times and am very happy and confident with them. I actually looked at each pack of these and could not find a single one that looked like the markings were off. Granted- I’m looking at them thru the clear packaging- but still- they look good.


The markings on the Ulticare’s and SureComfort’s are inconsistently printed with the top (zero) line being several times thicker than the other lines. Also- the top (zero) line on the SureComfort’s appear to stop short of where plunger ends up- in other words- additional insulin that is beyond the top (zero) would be injected. This was a major problem I was having with the BD’s... making dosing very frustrating.


Anyway- love the Monoject’s so far- and- at this time- highly recommend them… anyone else using them?


The Ulticare’s and SureComfort’s are going back.

Thanks for the update John! Like you, I have had issues with the BD syringes and a little with the Sure Comfort ones. I will order the Monojects.

 

I use the monoject. I just received the sure comfort and I opened one and I don't think I will like them. Since I opened them I guess I have to use them.

You could do as I'm doing and email them and complain that the syringes you ordered are unusable due to the markings... or whatever you don't like about them. They shouldn't give you any trouble in returning them... if they want to keep you as a customer.

 

I opened one bag, will they take them back? I would exchange them for others.

They should… I'll let you know if they accept the ones I'm returning for a refund... but...

Back in October 2015 I received a really bad box of BD syringes from ADW and was able to return them for a refund… here’s some of the email conversations I had with them (I removed the email addresses- not sure if their allowed)…

We have issued you a complete refund for this order of syringes. I am going to send you out a return label so we can get the product back. If you have the original box that these came in, please include that with the return as well. We will review the product when it arrives back to our facility and act accordingly. Thank you.

We spoke with our product specialist and we have issued you a full refund back to your credit card. And we are sending a return label for you to return that box. Bd is actually one of our top brands so we cannot suggest another syringe but you are welcome to look online and see if there’s another one you would like to purchase instead.

Per our phone conversation earlier this afternoon- please find attached a photo of one of the syringes (the one on the right) from my latest order from you and one of the syringes from a previous order (the one on the left). As can clearly be seen the one on the right has very poorly printed lines and is unusable. The lot number of this last order is xxxxx. I would say that at half the syringes are as bad (or close to it) as the one on the right and probably none are as good (at least so far) as the one on the left. Please advice.
