How common is it for cats to go blind because of diabetes? I know two people who have dogs and they became blind.

Cats can go blind from severe hypoglycemia (low bs) but they don't go blind from having diabetes the same way dogs can.

I second Janet's comment - dogs and cats are very different in how their diabetes is handled and what it affects. Dogs yes, cats rarely.

In dogs the BG has to be very well controlled to prevent cataracts from forming. It is the cataracts that causes diabetic "blindness" in dogs. Cats tolerate high BGs a lot better than dogs over many many years cats do form cataracts with high BGs
