Good Morning L & L ~ :coffee:

Keeping Elise and Cheryl in my thoughts and prayers during this sad time. Also sending out lots of vines to @Wendy&Neko.

Status Quo her. Bubba was glad not to be grounded this morning since he gave me a green. It's going to be a pretty fall day here and later this week we will be enjoying Indian Summer when the temp rises back up into the 80's mid week. What a gorgeous Super Harvest Moon last night! :joyful:

Vines to all Beans and Kitties ~

Keep it down Bubba. Autumn gotta love it. Do you make mouse pies or maybe mouse mousse??????
No, Bubba is stingy with his catch. Usually eats it field side but occasionally will bring it to the house and share with Forrest. It's really cute when I see him do that. At first, I hated that he killed mice. After my previous Rav 4 was destroyed by a mouse infestation, I sound like Jason from Friday the 13th, Kill kill kill kill

I've always subscribed to the Darwin theory of the kill..the ones the cat catches, be it bird, mouse, vole etc. are the ones that are a bit less alert, less cautious, less fast, less reactive to danger etc..therefore they get caught while others escape in time..therefore those tendencies are eliminated in the gene pool over time as the ones who carry them are eliminated and don't reproduce...so actually Bubba is doing the mouse population a favor by cullling the herd!:)
Yikes on the car destruction....

Happy Day 9!

I so envy your weather. We are in the 90s, day after day.

I have a question. I have read and reread the info that Jill posted this morning about "Earning reductions and OTJ Trials. @Mancat posted the following:

" I would also suggest to everyone that they try to test their meter against lab values on more than one occasion - I've found that, although Rosa seems to settle mostly in the 80-100 range, my meter also reads consistently within 5 points of lab value...and the lab range is 72-175 so she's still firmly in the lower half of that range. That does vary from one meter to another - I got very lucky (completely by chance) with my meter, but because I know where it reads I also know that seeing mostly 80s and 90s and even the odd low 100s on my meter is not cause for major concern. "

How do you do the comparison?

The only way that I can think of is to take your meter with you on Bubba's next vet visit and get a reading if the vet does a blood test. I have done that with Shoes and the AT2 against the chemical analyzer at our vet's in March.

ETA: Perhaps there is a way to take a sample from Bubba's ear to the vet to be checked?

Okay, that makes sense. Thanks Sandi

I wouldn't worry about it Bobbie, it's like comparing an alpha track to a human meter it will just drive you nuts! If Rosa was consistently reading in the 80-100 range when the cross checks were done it wouldn't be too surprising if the variance with the lab meter was fairly consistent too but, like with alpha track comparisons, the variance will change depending on the level the kitty is at and it will not be a consistent number of points or a consistent percentage.

I checked Vyktor's agains the vets once by taking an ear test just after they'd drawn bloods but that was only because I was concerned (rightly as it turned out) that my meter was reading low at high numbers since he got DKA when my meter (freestyle lite) was telling me that he was only in high blues

My Spare is a freestyle lite, only bought it when George sent his meter for a dip in the fountain:rolleyes:, it measured lower than my regular one but not that much of a difference, having said that BFG had got down to green/blue when I finally made the swap back when I got a replacement.
Mine was only bought in november 2015, some folk warned me that it had been noted that it had a tendancy to measure pretty low at high numbers when they first came out but that maybe there had been some improvement with the newer version. (I've not had to use it since last november) Was yours one of the 'original' models??

It's a shame because I really did like the teeeeeeny bit of blood required to get a reading, but I didn't really trust it 100% after folk shared there experiences with me. I had no idea that it had been quite so dramatic fo Vyktor.:(

We are using the Relion Prime, not the Freestyle Lite ( although my mom uses that one) I guess I am more concerned with the accuracy in the lower ranges. It is what it is.......wish his numbers were under 80 but they are not. We are getting a shipment of raw rabbit tomorrow and I will be interested in whether his numbers come down. Remembering that I read when switching to raw it can take a few weeks to see a downward movement in numbers, is this for just kitties on insulin or does it apply to kitties OTJ also? Do you know the answer, Gill ?
