Her AMPS was 134 so I didn't give her a shot this morning. Her numbers have been low all day and she's had a little less than 2 cans of FF. Now her PMPS is at 202 ~ she's been without a shot for 24 hrs, do I reduce to 1.5?

Update: tested again +1 and she's at 232 so I gave her the 1.5u

The dose definitely needs to be reduced as you've had to skip shots twice in the last few days. It's best to find a dose that you can shoot twice daily consistently. The one thing that stands out though is the lack of night time data. Getting a test before bed every night would help fill in that part of the puzzle. Otherwise you are only seeing half the story.

Many if not most kitties go lower at night than during the day and it looks to me like Cutie Pie may be going lower overnight and then bouncing some day. You end up with low pre-shots when the bounces clear. This is just speculation and some night time tests would help to prove or disprove that guess.

If you are able to monitor tonight, should the need arise, then I'd reduce to 1.5u and test Cutie Pie again at +3 to see if her BG is steady or dropping and monitor as needed based on the +3 reading. If you can't monitor, I'd give her 1u and test before bed. Leave food out overnight for her to eat if needed.
That 202 may be a bounce starting from the low today in which case the night may be totally uneventful with flat or rising numbers.

So at 9pm last night she tested at 232 so I gave her the 1.5. One-third can of FF was out overnight, which she ate. This morning she tested at 112 @ 6:45a and 126 @ 8:20. Shall I test her every 2-3 hrs today?

Given the low AMPS and how little data you have so far since your journey just started, I'd recommend skipping this AM. It may be that even 1.5u is too high but it's hard to know for sure given the lack of night time data. Getting even one test before bed every night will help shed some light on what is going on with Cutie Pie and make it easier to determine what adjustment to dose may be best.

It looks like a good day for a curve number wise but if you didn't give insulin, it won't tell you anything about how the insulin is working. I'd test her again 3 hours post her morning meal to see if her BG has dropped or risen at that time.

If you shot last night on the reading of 232, that reading should go into the PMPS cell on the spreadsheet rather than in the +1 cell.

Just saw your reply and adjusted the ss reading ~ I tested again at 10:40a and she's dropped to 102. I put down a small amount of the Purina DM dry (18% carbs-got this from the vet) for her. Is this a bounce or is she self adjusting with the FF food? I'm confused...

Not sure why you gave her the dry food. That will elevate her BG which at 102 is absolutely terrific and she is in no danger. If Cutie Pie is hungry you can feed her but better to give her LC wet food and try to get her to surf along in those healing numbers. The fact that her BG has come down on it's own at +4 suggests her pancreas is doing some work and keeping her steady.

Right now it looks to me like if you keep Cutie Pie on the wet low carb diet, you may have a kitty who could go into remission so please don't feed the dry unless you need it to battle low BG after an insulin shot and even then, I would consider it a last choice for dealing with low numbers.

A bounce is when BG goes up not down. This is not a bounce. This is great and very encouraging and probably largely a result of getting her onto the low carb wet diet.

Thanks for fixing last night's pre-shot but we also need to know that the shots last night and this morning were skipped. Can you update the dose cells with "ns" so anyone helping knows those shots were skipped. :)

Thanks :) She loves the lc wet food and likes to eat small amounts through out the day . (I had put a very small handful of the dry down and she barely touched it so I picked it up.) I updated the ss but don't know why it didn't take before. Should I continue to test every 3 hrs today?

No but just for info sake, you could grab one more test about 2 hours before normal shot time. With her BG being this low despite missed shots, I think the dose may need to be reduced further but let's see what she does later in the cycle. What time zone are you in?

We're in So Calif so Pacific Daylight Savings Time ~ it's 1:41pm right now. Normal shot time has been between 8-8:30 pm so I'll test her at 6 and post here and on the ss. Thanks so much for the guidance. I'll to get her pix posted :)

Interesting. Seems she got a lot of duration out of that 1.5u last night. We need to find a dose you can give consistently twice daily. How about trying 1.25u tonight and see how she does. It may need to come down even more but let's take this slowly. Can you get a test around +2 or +3 tonight to see where Cutie Pie is headed?

My U40 syringes don't have the half or quarter marks but I have the insulin conversion chart from this site and can use my husband's U100 syringe. So 1.25 converts to 3.0, correct? I'll give Cutie Pie the shot at 8:00 then test at 10pm and update the ss. Hopefully it's a good night :)

Yes 1.20u of ProZinc would be 3.0u in a U100 syringe. That's close enough. :) Glad you have access to those U100 syringes.

Thanks for getting that test last night. As I suspected its very telling. That drop of over 100 points in 2 hours is a pretty big drop which suggests Cutie Pie is in fact dropping to lower BG levels overnight than you are aware of. That can suggest that the dose is too high. It can also set off bounces. If you test early in the night cycle and the +2/+3 test is the same or lower than the pre-shot, it's usually going to be an active cycle meaning a little more monitoring or steering with food may be needed.

Next time you see a drop like that, feed Cutie Pie a snack and retest in a hour to make sure she is holding or the drop has slowed. Repeat that process if BG continues to drop.

I won't be surprised to see another low BG this AM.

After the last test last night, I left a 1/4 can of FF out for her, which was gone this morning. AMPS is 196. Her treat at test time is a few small grilled chicken tender pieces, which she loves. She's hungry so I put 1/4 can of FF down.

Ok so she called my bluff BUT that BG could also be a bounce from lower BG last night. If you are home and have lots of supplies, you can try 1.0u this morning and test at +2 to see if/how much she has dropped.

You're at about +3 now, correct?

Do you have any high carb food available....maybe something with gravy? if so give her a tsp or 2 of the gravy so she can just lap that up instead of filling her up with food not to mention it sounds like she's not hungry now. The lack of hunger is probably just the lower BG but you need to keep her surfing not dropping.

Ok you can feed a tsp of gravy food to keep her surfing. She should be coming closer to nadir now (looks like she may hit nadir in the +5/6 timeframe) so unfortunately, I think another test half hour after a snack is warranted to make sure Cutie Pie isn't getting too frisky.

You are probably fine to go with the 1u but I would still want to test her around +3 so since you are tired and her appetite isn't great tonight, I'd do a reduced shot of 0.75u but do get a test before bed and leave some food out for her overnight. If she happens to be dropping a lot before bed, you can put a little higher carb food out for overnight.

That's fine. Cutie Pie obviously didn't have any problems today and it looks like her PMPS might be a tad higher than this morning but probably not much.
I'd continue the 0.75u dose for now as long her PMPS tonight is the same as or higher than her AMPS. I'll probably be heading off to bed soon so if there are questions, let me know.

I'm so sorry.Just seeing this now. If it isn't too late for you to give insulin, you could give her 0.5u and see how she does. If you give insulin, test her again at +3 to see where she is and monitor her through the cycle depending on whether she is dropping or not at that point in time.
If it is too late, then skipping is fine and we'll see where she is at PMPS.

Those are beautiful numbers and especially so with no insulin this morning.:joyful: Her BG dropping like that after her breakfast is great news. Her pancreas is working much better. Unless BG is considerably higher tonight, I'm inclined to say no shot tonight either but let's reserve judgement till we see what PMPS is.

So that number might be a tiny bit food influenced but not much.

I think at that BG you can give her 0.5u. She earned a reduction with that 86 yesterday morning after her last shot. Test her at +3 and see what she's go planned for tonight. :)

That's much better. Retest her in 20 minutes and post. We may need to boost her up a bit more but let's see if she's holding or dropping again now.

Good! Don't feed her again right now. Test her again in 30 minutes to ensure she is staying up, and if she is, I think you can give her some more food and call it a night. If she is dropping again, then it's a repeat process.
    I'll check back in.

You are so welcome. We never leave anyone on their own in low numbers till we know everyone's safe. Unwritten policy!;)

I think you could try 0.25u this AM IF you are up to monitoring Cutie Pie should it be needes. Otherwise I would just skip this morning. Those late nights and all the excitement can be exhausting. You have to look after you too because Cutie Pie needs you!

Looking to me like Cutie Pie might be on a mission. Fingers crossed!

We’re going to skip the shot this am She’s in good spirits and is having breakfast. Should I test again midday?

Sure. It never hurts to see what she is doing when she hasn't had a shot. Gives some clues as to how well her pancreas might be working. ;)

4:00p test is 106 - she's hungry so I gave her 1/3 can lc FF. Next test will be the PMPS results (do we have a fingers crossed emoji?)

No you both get a break tonight but you could be nice to Cutie Pie and give her an extra treat for those lovely numbers she gave you today. ;)

PMPS @ 7:10 is 90. She's hungry so she's finishing the lc FF from earlier and some from a fresh can. Hasn't eaten a lot today, though.

Lower BG will diminish appetite to some degree. Cutie Pie is now processing and utilizing the food she eats better because her BG is in normal range. :D Love that PMPS.

Absolutely! She’s engaging more with others in the house like she used to. Anything I need to do before bedtime?

Cutie Pie is at 103 this morning! :joyful: She finished the food that was left out and was ready for breakfast. She got her chicken treat and 1/3 can of lc FF, which she'll eat some then come back to it. She also vocalizes when she's done with the litter box and when she's back to her bed on the landing. She's a sweetie!

The litter box calls are too funny. My girl sings her song of "Mom my box needs cleaning" every time she makes a solid deposit. She's always been a fuss pot about the litter box and even cleans up after her less than scrupulous brothers when it comes to covering stuff up! She's my little housekeeping assistant!
Cutie Pie is doing great. :joyful:

Tested at +5 and she's at 74. She had finished the 1/3 can lc FF from this am and ate 1/2 of the 1/3 can I just put down. She was always a free feeder on the previous diet of dry food. I think I should leave some wet food down when we're going to be gone for a few hours (like we just were). Do you think she'll surf until I test her at PMPS time?

Cutie Pie is doing great! No need for anymore testing till PMPS. You can allow her to free feed but pull her food 2 hours before you do the AMPS and PMPS tests so they are not food influenced. Otherwise she can munch to her heart's content. :joyful:

PMPS @ 8:15p is 112. She has lc FF in her bowl so she can graze through out the night. :joyful:

Tested Cutie Pie at 6:50pm (just shy of 2 hrs after nibbling) and she's at 82. She likes to eat a little bit every 2-3 hrs.

Cutie Pie's dish was empty 6:40a (I left food out overnight) so I put 1/3 can lc FF down planning to test in 2 hrs. Got grankids off to school and forgot to pick up the dish. Tested at 8:40a and she's at 130. Letting her finish the small amt in the bowl - should I test again in 2 hrs? No shot so far.

I'd suggest you test her +3 hours after her last food and see if numbers are down. That 130 is getting up there a wee tad but could just be excitement if grandkids were all excited about school??!!
