I'm a bit nervous because she has been having frequent soft poops since yesterday afternoon, she also threw up just before AM shot. Neither thing has ever lowered her BG before though, as long as she's eating, which she was doing on her own until she threw up. I had to force feed after that.
Wish I had gotten a pm +9.

I just got a +2 248. Darn. Guess I'll go back to sleep for awhile! The PS was accurate, retested on the same meter and tested on my back up meter, got 189 on both, so hopefully there will be more blue SOON.

PM edit Well that was a very disappointing AM cycle!
Pooping is okay this afternoon and no vomiting.

Hey Julie ~ I am sorry Eleanor isn't feeling tip top. The soft poops and the throwing up makes me wonder is she is experiencing some IBD issues. Has she had IBD issues in the past? That's what happens to Bubba when he has a bit of a flare. I give 1tsp of solid packed pure pumpkin in his AM and PM meals which helps keep his poop a normal consistency. Have you ever tried that?

As far as her throwing up right before the AM shot, as long as she eats about 1 tbsp. or so of food I would feel comfortable to go ahead a shoot because it will be hours before the insulin kicks in. And especially if you are going to be around to make sure she eats some more. Hope she starts feeling better. :bighug:

Bobbie, yes Eleanor has had IBD issues before. I tried giving her pure pumpkin but the diarrhea got worse, I didn't know if the pumpkin caused it. I have an unopened can so I'm going to try that again. Her diarrhea issues are really getting bad. Her vet won't listen to me when I tell him I think she has IBD, he insists the diarrhea and vomiting are due to a parasite.
He did do an xray and said her bowel wall looked thickened. Well, so?!
Does Bubba get B12 injections?
Thank you for the info.

No Bubba doesn't get B12 injections. Is that for the IBD? To tell you the truth, his is so mild

and one of his vets just mentioned it as a possibility that he has a mild case and I tend to agree. Funny but just yesterday after his +9 snack, he hacked it up and then this morning his poop was a bit soft . He used to vacillate between being constipated and diarrhea. So the pumpkin has helped with both of those issues. Recently, he had a bout with constipation and it shot his numbers up high so I started with the miralax. This morning, I cut back on the amount of miralax because of the soft poop.

Tip for the pumpkin. I put some in a Tupperware ( what you think you'll need in the next 4 days) and then I take ice cube trays and put a heaping tsp in each section and freeze. Once frozen, I take them out and pop them into ziplock bags and keep in the freezer until about a day before I will need more and then thaw them in the refrigerator. No more waste. ;) Which reminds me, I need to take up my pumpkin sickles I made last night. :p

Julie, if the vet thinks Eleanor's issues are from a parasite, did he offer any solutions or meds to get rid of the parasite?

Vet has prescribed Metronidazole several times, I don't know if it helps the immediate problem or not because it resolves with or without the Metronidazole. Long term it does nothing.
Her stool has been checked for parasites, but was negative. Vet wants a Stool
Panel run but I don't have the $350 it costs. I just don't see how a cat can have parasites and be fine for months at a time, in between flare ups. It looks to me
like something inflammatory. This vet and previous vet both suspected
Pancreatitis, test for that was negative, but we are treating "as if" when she has vomiting with pain etc, subq fluids, pain med and Cerenia.
After a lot of reading I think she has IBS, plus I had another IBS kitty who had the same symptoms.

Sorry Julie! You know Eleanor best and I wish that the vet would listen to you. I know nothing about IBS in cats. Hope you can find something that will work with Eleanor and not cost so much to treat her.!

Next cycle is the 7th cycle on 5u. I don't know if I should go ahead and increase. I think she may be bouncing from that 188 PS, I'm also wondering if she dropped lower than 188 around +9.
Thoughts?

I hope Eleanor feels better!!
Did your vet test for giardia? metronidazole would have gotten rid of it if she did have it--metronidazole can cause tummy upset:(
:bighug::bighug:
SEB is pretty amazing:) can mix in baby food:cat:

I believe she was tested for giardia a year or so ago when the diarrhea started.
She's had so much metronidazole...it's what the vet would always prescribe for the diarrhea. Ugh. I am armed with pumpkin and am getting SEB.

Good morning Julie. What if you were to ask your vet to just treat as if it were parasite and give you the tablets of Drontal which are very cheap compared to a panel. It will kill roundworm, hook, and tape worms. Hope the SEB and pumpkin help :bighug:
