Do we have any members in Australia? I'm sure we do but I can't think who... asking because we have a newbie from Sydney, Arthur (see Welcome forum) and I always think it's nice to be in touch with members from our own country for help with specifics like food etc.
Anyone....? Please look at Welcome forum for Arthur's thread.

Thank you Diana and Tuxedo's Mum. I am still learning how this web-site works, but I have managed to load a picture of Boo Boo.
She may come home from hospital tomorrow although she is not eating and has a feeder and pancreatitis and DM 2.
I think that coming home will cheer her up but I feel so inadequate to help her. I guess they will help me at the hospital and if there is anything you think I should ask them please let me know.

    Cheers and thanks

Your Boo Boo is beautiful [IMG]

It does take some time to learn your way around this forum, but you will catch on in time. Heck after almost 3 years I get lost sometimes

There are a number of people here who have done tube feeding and can assist you with advice. Hopefully the vet will give you some good information before your kitty comes home. If not you can get help/support from people who have dealt with this.

Another very important tool to keeping Boo Boo safe is home testing. There is excellent information at this link:

Many vets do not suggest home testing, but it is really such an important part of helping to control diabetes. It can be a bit daunting when you first start...I don't know who cried more when I or my over time it becomes a regular part of your daily routine.

Has the vet told you what insulin you will be given? I am not sure if Australia is similar to the UK where there is a cascade system for which insulins can be used at the start. Different insulins act in different ways, so knowing which type you will be using and learning how that insulin works is important information.

Thanks for tagging me Mary Ann @Tuxedo Mom. Have just answered Arthur on his thread. I try and keep a look out for other Aussies but sometimes miss them

One suggestion I have that helped me in the beginning was to videotape on my phone all of the vet techs instructions for giving shots and for setting up the sub q fluids. My mind was not focused so that helped me by being able to review everything before doing it myself. I could also share the info with my partner so would know what to do too, and i was sure I wasn't giving the wrong info.
