Ive been non stop researching since yesterday came across raw food diets. Ive known about raw food but ive read some peoples kitties have gone completely off insulin just a short time after having thier kitties on a raw food diet. Just wondering if any one here as had the same experience? I know raw food has no carbs which is the best diet for a diabetic kitty. I know my guy needs insulin right now along with a new diet but im feeling hopefully. He starts insulin tomorrow.

    Hi again, Bee!
Couple quick things, some kitties can go into remission and become diet controlled; however, we usually recommend doing a big diet change before starting insulin. If you do diet change once they start, you'll definitely want to be home testing his BG (blood glucose). We can help you learn, it's really the best tool in our FD (feline diabetes) toolbelt :cat:.
If interested, most of us use Google Sheets to track and share BG numbers. If you need help setting one up, just ask!: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/fdmb-spreadsheet-instructions.130337/
Since you will be starting insulin tomorrow, it will be helpful to setup your Signature so we know some basic information about Rocky. Also, helps those of us with bad memories : http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/editing-your-signature-profile-and-preferences.130340/
Lastly, I like to give this to new members to read ahead of time but hope you never need: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/how-to-treat-hypos-they-can-kill-print-this-out.15887/

Hopefully you will get some responses directly related to changing to raw /home made diets. Stay positive, you're not alone :bighug:

Not all raw food is zero carb food. When Neko was first diagnosed I switched her to raw in the hopes it would help her get to remission. It didn't happen, but it turned out she had a secondary condition (acromegaly) causing her diabetes. However, she loved it, I think it was a really good switch for her health, and it helped my other cat who had cystitis. Going to a low carb canned food is also a good option and we have seen many kitties go off insulin with just a little insulin support and a diet switch.

I recently requested a sample of FoodFurlife EZ complete. Hoping the raw way of life will help with their constipation that I think the clay in Natures Instinct is causing. And hoping it helps Jimmy lose some lbs.

My CHF/HCM boy Nando was on a raw food diet after almost dying from severe IBD. The raw food diet made a complete turnaround for him and I am sure it helped him live 6 years past his initial heart failure diagnosis. We use Feline Instincts 'My Natural Cat' premix with raw organic turkey. I'm about to adopt a diabetic cat and I hope to transition him to this raw diet as well. Felice, who owns the company is great to deal with as well.
