? Reasons for insulin effect dropping off sharply?

On a fat 1U, Fearless was spending lots of time in greens and blues. Since then he hasn't been able to get back there, even on the increase back to 1U. The last two days it appears the efficacy of the insulin has dropped off precipitously after nadir (testing at +3 and +6 or +2, +4 and +6). Is something wrong with the Lantus that it's not lasting the full 12 hours? I've used the vial for 2 months w/out issue until now. This pattern is more pronounced during the day. I see the logic in the 3 cycles from 5/17 am thru 5/18 am, as well as last night thru today (until he hit the wall @+9), but the jump in BG @ amps yesterday, and late day yesterday and today has me concerned. Any thoughts?

When are you feeding Fearless? And what foods? Too many carbs later in the cycle can cut the duration.

Feeding LC FF (about 2 cans/day) spread out throughout the day. If you click on the "notes" at the top right corner of each cell in the SS, my food notes are there. Before the big jump in BG level today, he had 1/2 can @ AMPS and 1/4 can @ +6.

If I'm reading your ss correctly, this is only the third cycle after a drop into the greens. Don't try to analyze anything that happens during a bounce. You'll drive yourself crazy! Numbers will often bobble up and down during a bounce. That said, I do think you'll probably end up increasing the dose to 1.25u in order to pull the entire range down.

I'd bet money on this being a bounce.

The last time Fearless saw greens with any regularity was just before 05/10 on a fat 1u dose. The reduction to 0.75u failed. He's only seen green twice since the dose was increased to 1u and they're not even low greens. It took 5 cycles for the bounce to clear after the green on 05/18. Today was only the third cycle after the last green. With any luck the bounce will clear tonight or tomorrow.

In the mean time, his body has become less used to lower numbers... which leads me to believe there's a good chance/probability you'll have to surpass the fat 1u dose to get back to seeing greens with any regularity, BUT my crystal ball is in the shop. Have patience and don't get yourself married to any particular dose. Just follow his lead and give him however much he needs.
