Sophie - my 17-year-old civvie - has been diagnosed with a large benign cyst on her neck. Thyroid tests all clear. Vet Russell says there is no option but to operate to remove the cyst, as it is just getting larger. I've booked her in for 8am next Tuesday.

Spent ages talking about safety of Metacam, Convenia etc - he says he's never had any problems but I'm sending him some links just so he's clued up.

Needless to say, I am as nervous as hell and I've impressed on Russell how very very precious Sophie is and how he is to take the very greatest care and not take any risks. He says he will do his very best and if for any reason there are complications as he is operating, he will close up and refer her to a specialist.

I suppose this is good news that there's nothing "nasty" as such but I am shaking like a leaf

Sending easy and uncomplicated surgery vibes and rapid recovery for Sophia, and stay calm vibes for Momma.

I can so understand that shaking like a leaf. We just had our twin tuxs spayed and neutered and even though it was a simple and routine surgery didn't help a bit with my nerves. I have a wonderful vet that I love a lot and who knows exactly how precious they all are,but I don't think I will ever be comfortable with any of my furry kids going under the knife.

You both will be in my prayers that everything goes smoothly and Sophia will recover quickly

    Mel and the furry bunch.
