    Hi everyone!

Felix gave me some weird numbers yesterday and today and I was wondering if someone can give me an idea as to what is going on.

So if you look at Felix's SS you can see that yesterday his AMPS was 139. I decided a NS as I was not going to be home mid way through the cycle to take his reading and figuring better safe than sorry and I would just give him insulin on his next cycle as he should be running high at his PMPS....

he wasn't.... his PMPS turned out to be 112 ( i stalled and repeated this reading 3 times to make sure.. poor ears) so again a NS ( i test him at what would be +3 and +7 turns out to be 90 and 92 respectively) .

This morning I go to do his AMPS and its 101.. what gives?!?!?! Im stalling at the moment but If his numbers come back again in the ~100 range what should I do? should I again do a NS or give him a token shot of 0.25 U canninsulin? If I do give him the shot I will only be home till +2 to watch him and I'm worried he will go hypo.

    thoughts?

There are not many people on at this time. With the low preshot and the fact that you are not home during the cycle it would be best to skip the shot. It could well be that the change from dry to low carb wet has made a big difference in the glucose levels. It may be that Felix may be one of the lucky ones that can go into remission with a change to proper food.

Thanks for the reply Tuxedo Mom!
I figured that if I didn't get a response I would just skip, Felix will be glad to know that he can finally eat :). I will definitely monitor him for ketones as he has skipped 3 shots already.

With the low preshot and a fairly recent change to low carb wet it is better to be safe. If Felix is eating well and stays in the lower numbers he has been doing then there shouldn't be a major concern with ketones, but checking for ketones is always a good idea.

From what I could see you changed from dry food to low carb wet food about 1 1/2 weeks ago. This could definitely be effecting the insulin requirements, and perhaps leading to diet controlled FD. Fingers crossed that Felix continue to stay in the better number range. ;)

Wow, looks like he might be on his way to remission! Skipping the shots on those numbers is a good idea & it's awesome that he's keeping them on the low side without insulin :)

Promising indeed! keep checking those numbers, and if he keeps on not giving you anything to shoot, he might be telling you he's done with the juice!

Just curious: did he have pancreatitis leading to diabetes?

    Hey Stephanie,

As far as I know he did not have pancreatitis, he never showed symptoms of it and my current vet never mentioned it as a possibility but we also have never tested for it. I think his diabetes was most likely from his diet as he was only eating perscribed high carb dry food previously (thanks to our old vet ).
