    Hi everybody,
You may not remember me, I only posted here a few times over the summer in a complete panic over my sweet kitty, Pumpkin. I was so scared with his new diagnosis, especially being a broke college student, and was overwhelmed by the advice and support I received here.

My 13 year old little orange Pumpkin went in with serious symptoms. Drinking and urinating excessively, no energy at all, dull coat and terrible neuropathy in his back legs. I was convinced he was dying :(

Anyway, he ended up going on Glipizide for a month, and I changed his diet to all wet, fancy feast classics. I am happy to let you all know that he is now in remission- no insulin required! He has been doing well for over a month now (off the Glipizide), without any symptoms and glucose right where it needs to be, and I can't believe the energy he has!! Will be keeping a close eye on him, but both he and I have been so much happier :)

Anyway, just wanted to give you all an update, and thank you again. Good luck to all of you with your kitties!!

Congratulations to you and Pumpkin! It's always wonderful to hear success stories and I find yours with the use of Glipizide particularly intriguing as it's not common to see cats on that treatment and even less common to see them go into remission. Wishing you a long, happy and healthy remission! :D

WTG. How wonderful to see a kitty go into remission.

Glipizide is not usually the best choice for treating FD since it works by making the pancreas work harder to produce more insulin, while normally we want our kitties' pancreas to rest and repair itself. However with the food change to a good low carb wet diet that could have been all it took to get the numbers down to normal. In any case what wonderful news

    Thanks guys,
Yes, I didn't realize Glipizide was not a good choice until after I started giving it to him, once I joined this forum. I agree that it was probably the diet that did the trick. Pumpkin had been on a dry food, eat-whenever-you-feel-like diet all his life. I was fully prepared to switch him to insulin, especially because at the time of diagnosis his glucose was over 600! At any rate, I'm happy hes not on the Glipizide any longer, and he's loving his new wet food diet (Pumpkin's world revolves around food)
Its like I have a brand new kitty. Night and day with Pumpkin, I'm so happy hes happy again. :)
