6/5 Tiggy amps 285 + 10 98 .. Sad.

Work has been crazy and I am feeling really tired again. It doesn't help I am upset about Tiggy and worried. I don't know what I was expecting from the neurologist.. Maybe "it's the diabetes it will go away" .. And not that Tiggy could end up unable to walk or paralysed and with a shorter lifespan. And that we can't afford $6k for tests and surgery that might do nothing. I hate having a price tag on his head. If we hadn't spent the $4k on Bonnie last year we might have some spare cash... But even then we are living to the max with the diabetes supplies and the enzymes for bailey and the meds for Pikachu etc..

I feel so bad for him. First the diabetes at such a young age, then a rare cancer (which we removed) and now this. How much bad luck or weird rare conditions can one cat have? Plus bailey has epi which isn't exactly common and Pikachu (rabbit) is having major issues too. We can't catch a break.

My poor beautiful boy... He is only 9...

I am so sorry you and Tiggy are going through this. I know what you mean about so many things happening to one poor, innocent cat. My Cinco was abandoned, got FD (and DKA), contracted a Bartonella virus, got glaucoma, went blind, and then had a cancerous mass that caused him to lose an eye and turned out to be lymphoma. And he's just the sweetest, most mellow kitty you'd ever meet. Life is not fair.

I'm glad that you got some answers (even though they weren't the ones you wanted), and at least have an idea of what you're dealing with. From the videos (what an adorable little boy he is, by the way!), he didn't look like he was in a lot of pain. The fact that he was running and playing is comforting. I hope you are able to find a way to help him some for now, while you save for future tests. I'll be keeping you all in my prayers, and I'm sending lots of healing and comforting vines and hugs. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

wendy, i'm so sorry you don't have answers, much less good news. i watched one of the videos - he has such a beautiful expression! what a sweetheart! He looks like he might have some maine coon in him - they are such wonderful cats.

i think i would just concentrate on giving the best quality of life to him as you can for as long as you can. Acupuncture might help his pain - there is a video link in my signature of punkin getting acupuncture for pain relief. He didn't like it, but it did help at first. When we stopped acupuncture, we tried laser therapy, and it definitely helped. He got bupe twice a day for months without ill effects or seeming loopy or drugged.

are you giving him adequan, just in case it's anything joint-related? For arthritis, cosequin is the first line of treatment, adequan and dausequin are next. Many people give cats fish oil - i don't know dosage but i doubt it would hurt and it might help.

I'd try to keep my focus on the positive and just do the best you can with the rest of it.

Gosh, the cost of all those tests is shocking and I can only imagine how you feel so sad. But it truly sounds like you are doing all you can do to give Tiggy the best possible life he can have, making him as comfortable as possible, hugs though, I know this has to be heartbreaking

Wendy - I'm so sorry the news is not good for Tiggy. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: I have seen cats in "wheelchairs" that seem to do just fine. One of the vets here has a cat that's been like that for years, and he still wheels out and greets the customers. I hope it will be a long time before you'd have to consider anything like that.

Thanks guys, the nice thing is he isn't in pain and doesn't know what's going on. I just don't know what he will do if he loses the ability to walk in his back legs. But I guess we will see .. If and when it happens. Today was a good day, he really enjoyed wandering in the garden, i am letting him do it more while he can.

I am so sorry that you are going through all of this. I am glad that Tiggy is not in pain. He is really a cute cat. Praying that he will continue to be pain free and for a good outcome for your Tiggy.

perhaps he won't deteriorate in the way you are worried about. So often in life the things we worry about don't ever happen. I hope that's how it will be with Tiggy. You never know, but I'd hope for the best.

how do his symptoms compare to Zener's? Z has cerebellar hypoplasia (i think i have that spelled right.) you might ask Anne or Liz to look at Tiggy's videos if they haven't yet.
