Yesterday's blues and greens

A bit higher start, but for Papaya yellow is nothing to complain about. She did NOT appreciate the thunder early this morning and had to make sure she was safely under the quilt!

I find her back claws are getting quite wild because she's not walking on them properly, and one of them always seems to make contact with my arm when she starts writhing around if I pick her up. I trimmed her claws last night and she was as cooperative as if she was a person going for a manicure, thank goodness!

There seem to have been a lot of PJ parties in LL lately - I hope everyone gets some sleep tonight ;-)

Re: 7/25 Papaya AMPS=266

a lot of PJ parties lately spent with YOUR HELP! THANKS last night for holding my hand AGAIN. was so kind of you......

poor Papaya didn't understand why you two were still up so late in bed! time to get some sleep mom!! ha

I bet as soon as you shut off the computer and turned off the lights....she was like : finally!! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I was wondering about claw clipping....I can hear Tom's sometimes snagging on the carpet. He never used to have problems with that as he would take it out on all my trees.....oh well, those days will return. anyway...I imagine it is like clipping a dog's nails right? oh yes, Kelly JUST LIKE IT. hahahahha

I am sure, also, that they have the infamous "quick"......

do you use special clippers or can you just clip the end with some human clippers?

Well, I think tom bounced late today...or I freaked and gave too much gravy or salmon patty this early am AGAIN. oh well, like you said: a learning curve.

I see Papaya is giving you some nice greens to fall asleep to lately! keep it up you 2!

Re: 7/25 Papaya AMPS=266

Thanks, Kelly! It looks like I'll get some sleep tonight because she's having a bit of a "higher" day, oh well. Of course I just started into canning some jam so tonight will be the night I'll be up anyway

It may not be ideal, but I just trim Papaya's claws with human clippers. I still let her keep them pretty long so no worries about getting anywhere near the quick (it's pretty easy to see the darker part anyway) - at a vet that I stopped going to when they wanted to use Caninsulin, they were so ticked that she took a swipe at them when they were getting a blood sample from her neck (!) that they cut all her claws really short. I didn't even know you COULD cut them that short - poor cat couldn't jump up on the bed for a while because she used her claws to help pull herself up! But I'm always impressed by how patient she is with the claw cutting. Unless she's really in a mood, I can just gently hold each paw and trim away, and she watches calmly. This from a cat that turns into a Tasmanian devil if you pick her up at all! Cats, they've got their own logic!

Re: 7/25 Papaya AMPS=266 PMPS=399

Yikes on that PMPS! Is that pink jam you are making?  At least it's not that other colour.

I have special cat clippers, that looks something like this. It goes around the nail in a circle so doesn't squash it and it's still easy to see the quick. I leave a decent amount of room after the quick too - just enough so I don't hear click, click when they walk. It's another activity where the treat reward works. :-D

It's totally not! Would you believe it's actually . . . blueberry! Blue! Blue! Where is the blue?? Oh well, I'll hope this is the exception that proves the rule or something and that we'll be back to better numbers later! Thanks for stopping by, Wendy. I shall have to check out proper cat-claw clippers.

Re: 7/25 Papaya AMPS=266 PMPS=399 +5=86

Well helloooo green. Between the blueberry jam I was canning and the blueberries in the dehydrator making the whole house smell like pie, I was hoping Papaya would follow suit and find some BLUE after a high PMPS . . . but she said that's old news and by +5 is at green again.

I am not even kidding, the second batch of stuff I canned tonight was jasmine GREEN TEA jelly. So . . . no wonder the green

Re: 7/25 Papaya AMPS=266 PMPS=399 +5=86

Just an observation....

Your "subject line" shows the difference between someone who's "been there done that" with low numbers late at night, and somebody who hasn't...

What we see with your's is a  and "well, hellooo green". As opposed to a "OMG!!! :o  "

As long as you keep canning blues and greens, Papaya is looking really fantastic!

Re: 7/25 Papaya AMPS=266 PMPS=399 +5=86

Ain't that the truth Carl!!!!

Amy is always cool and collected....and spreads that with her words of advice to all us      newbies

Amy you are making all of us hungry!!!

I am so happy for you that Papaya will have a good night

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Re: 7/25 Papaya AMPS=266 PMPS=399 +5=86

Hi Carl! I distinctly remember you making sure I was okay with handling Papaya's low numbers some of the first times I saw them . . . thanks! I was doing more of the  :o  back then! Now  is what I like to see.

Kelly, I guess I get the calm from my dad. My brother and I spent our childhood trying to get him to jump - ice cubes down the back don't even do it. Although we used to tease him about that poster, if you've ever seen it, with a skier going right off a cliff into the air, with the caption saying "If you can keep calm at a time like this . . . clearly you don't understand the situation". So I will hope that I am in fact rationally calm and not just oblivious

Re: 7/25 Papaya AMPS=266 PMPS=399 +5=86

You're welcome!

Did you notice that it seems to be a night for green numbers early? There's about 4 or 5 kitties who want their beans to stay up late tonight.

Re: 7/25 Papaya AMPS=266 PMPS=399 +5=86

Ha...their beans and their beans friends! :-D

I think Carl could use some blueberry pie :-D

Well, if they're going to keep us up, it's nice they memo each other first so we have some other beans to talk to while we are up!

Thanks for visiting, Marje! When I have some natural light to work with tomorrow I'll post a jam pic for everyone to drool over ;-) Papaya thanks you too for your input on the higher-low-carb food idea that seems to be working so well for her.

When I walked in tonight Papaya was sitting up with this look on her face that said, well, if I'd had a canary previously I wouldn't have had one any more. So I'm thinking she may have just eaten the food I left out not long before I came home and skewed the PMPS number somewhat.

Re: 7/25 Papaya AMPS=266 PMPS=399 +5=86

I think Carl could use some blueberry pie :-D

Carl's favorite type of pie in the whole wide world is blueberry pie!

Re: 7/25 Papaya AMPS=266 PMPS=399 +5=86

Wow we looking good, keep up the good work there Papaya

Re: 7/25 Papaya AMPS=266 PMPS=399 +5=86 +7=50

Thanks, Linda! She was sneaky and decided to keep dropping even after being fed at +5, but I fooled her and stayed up until +7 to catch that 50! After another snack I think I'm safe to go to bed!

Re: 7/25 Papaya AMPS=266 PMPS=399 +5=86 +7=50

Good catch. I'd sure like to see her going up instead of down. She's clearing a bounce and those cycles can be a little more active and they can drop I to the next PS. Hope not....you can't bake all night :-D

Re: 7/25 Papaya AMPS=266 PMPS=399 +5=86 +7=50

Hope not....you can't bake all night

but you could bake Carl a nice blueberry pie!

Re: 7/25 Papaya AMPS=266 PMPS=399 +5=86 +7=50

Well happily I am not working tomorrow so if it's a late night, so be it! I've got to say though, it kind of ruins "sleeping in" to get up at 4:30, 6:15, and 7:45 AM . . . but then again it's always a nice feeling to climb back into bed! I'll get a +8 to make sure she's not still going down.

Well, I DID end up buying more blueberries than I needed for the jam . . . I just may have to make a pie! Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever made a blueberry pie! Rhubarb, raisin, apple, peach, saskatoon (it's a Canadian prairie thing more tart than a blueberry), yes . . . but blueberry is not the first or even fifth thing I think of when I think of pie.

Re: 7/25 Papaya AMPS=266 PMPS=399 +5=86 +7=50

OK, now I'm HUNGRY! My mom used to make the greatest strawberry-rhubarb pie... I got it on my birthday because it was definitely better than any old cake. I moved down south, and people are like "what's rhubarb???" Tell you what, just post a pic of a pie and that'll make me happy. :-D

Re: 7/25 Papaya AMPS=266 PMPS=399 +5=86 +7=50

I'm from the south and grew up with strawberry rhubarb pie. OMG...sooooo good.

Re: 7/25 Papaya AMPS=266 PMPS=399 +5=86 +7=50

OK - now I'm hungry too. Good thing my neighbour brought over some blueberry pie today. :-D Not quite as good as saskatoon berry pie - those are harder to get here.

Hi Amy,

Just dropping in to see who else was up tonight - and of course, if there's PIE involved, I'm in!

Speaking of, we had lots of rhubarb pie in Southwestern Ohio where I grew up. Not so much strawberry-rhubarb, tho'.

Wow - I see Papaya likes to high dive! Glad you're taking it all in stride.

I'm in the Newbie category that freaks out with the new stuff - even though I've been wanting those Blues & Greens. Carl pulled me off the ceiling a few times when I was in the Prozinc forum, & tolerated my million questions.

Good luck, I hope Papaya has a nice peaceful landing!

Papaya is up to 65 by +8, not a huge rise but enough that I think I'm safe to go to bed. Only 4 hours until shot time now anyway!

I had no idea there were so many rhubarb-fanciers out there! Every year I have to make a batch of rhubarb relish - my grandma's recipe. It's about half onion, half rhubarb, with vinegar and cloves, simmered into a sort of chutney. I know rhubarb only grows places that have below-zero temps in winter, so next time I'm muttering at the 40 below weather I'll remember "but hey, we have rhubarb"

Hi Suzanne, thanks for stopping by to join the pie & PJ party! It's actually quite a lively night in my neighborhood, apparently I miss all kinds of things by going to bed. I heard yelling and when I stopped to listen to the words they were "GET DOWN ON THE GROUND! PUT YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK! DO IT NOW!". Yikes! So now that I have a rising number, methinks I am just going to double check that the door is locked, and go to sleeeeeep for a bit before AMPS!

Ack, you all totally made me want pie! Good night!

I'm starving and I am definitely trying to break the night time snacking while cruising condos. So norm of you have been any help tonight   hope you get some rest, Amy, while Suzanne and I are up :-D

I heard yelling and when I stopped to listen to the words they were "GET DOWN ON THE GROUND! PUT YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK! DO IT NOW!".
Guessing it wasn't neighborhood kids playing cops and robbers?

Are you leaving a snack out for Papaya?

HA!
"GET DOWN ON THE GROUND! PUT YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK! DO IT NOW!"

"Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas, anymore."

Maybe if you slowly push a pie out the door with a large broom handle. I think most people would choose a good homemade pie over murder & mayhem any day. I mean, who gets homemade pie anymore? I would gladly share with you, Marje. And that rhubarb chutney sounds yummy!

Oooh - my stomach just growled!
