Morning Barb ~O) ~O) ~O)

Here's to a good vetty visit for Checkers today. I hope all will go well.

LOL, they do have built in alarm clocks, don't they! :-D

It astounds like the R is working for you. Good deal! Surf well today Checkers, maybe back to the blues for you.

Enjoy your day today barb. I hope it is a good one.

Re: 8/22 Checkers amps 344 +2.5/328

Hi Barb. Glad Checkers got his numbers down today. We have our fingers crossed that he stays away from those high numbers now. Sending positive vetty visit vines to Checkers.

Have a great day Barb.

Re: 8/22 Checkers amps 344 +2.5/328+6.5/268

Vet visit was not so good.
He's anemic.

Kidney function is worse than Feb....BUN 55.......CREA 2.7

Spine is bone on bone; I have the last 3 cd's of x-rays. I can see the progression
The only pain med suitable for him with the compromised kidneys is bupe.
He will have it every 8 hours now, instead of every 12.

TT4 is normal at 1.9.....med working beautifully.

His gums don't look so good, so he will be on Clindamycin drops for that. I think that may be in sugar syrup, not sure. Have to look that up.
Everything else is good, even phosphorus.

Favorite tech Brandy, said he was a good boy, and he just 'talked' to her. :-D Only I know what he was saying.

Re: 8/22 Checkers amps 344 +2.5/328+6.5/268

Barb, I'm sorry the results weren't so good, but there are some positives. His Hyper-T is under control and you can give him the bupe. Sending hugs and prayers to you. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 8/22 Checkers amps 344 +2.5/328+6.5/268

(((Barb))) Sorry the vetty results weren't all as good as the hyperthyroid test. Are you giving him something for the anemia? At least you can give bupe more often.

I remember other's who've given clindamycin found it's pretty strong and can kill the good tummy bacteria. Might want to think about a probiotic or something like Fortiflora so he doesn't get diarrhea.

Pass on a few extra hugs and scritches from us to Checkers please.

Re: 8/22 Checkers amps 344 +2.5/328+6.5/268

Sorry there wasn't better news from the vet. Is he going to get a dental as well as the AB? Probiotic is a good idea w/ that. We're thinking of trying Azodyl for Tess to help lowere a few of the kidney values. The vet isn't sure it will help, but says it won't hurt.

Re: 8/22 Checkers pmps 493

Wendy, I forgot to ask point blank, "what can be done for the anemia"
Dave was explaining the connection between anemia and kidney failure, and I forgot to ask. His RETIC is high also.
I still don't understand about blood cells, but that's for a rainy afternoon, when I'm looking for something to read.

Ann, no dental. Dave is reluctant to anesthetize Checkers because it causes great pain in his back when he wakes. Right now, I need to deal with the gumline inflammation. Checks has a canine tooth that will be a problem to remove, but that's not now.

Ann and Wendy, thanks for reminding me about the Fortiflora. I gave it yesterday, when he had diarrhea.

Re: 8/22 Checkers pmps 493

Hi Barb,
Checkers' report is not so terrible! There are hopeful things in it. I don't know much about anaemia, but Tanya's CKD website has many pages devoted to it. Apparently it is common in CKD kitties and, as with other health issues, there are degrees of anaemia. If Dr. Dave didn't tell you what you could do about it, Checkers probably is just mildly anaemic. Here's the link to Tanya's pages:

The KTSS is on the way to give Checks the spa treatment for vetty smell,

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 8/22 Checkers pmps 493

((((Barb)))). Sorry the Vetty visit wasn't great but I agree with Ella that it wasn't horrible. Thinking of you. I hope the extra bupe helps Checks. Healing vines for the big guy.

Re: 8/22 Checkers pmps 493

Big Hug Barb.
I went and read Tanya's site and saw that the first thing is b vitamins....
If your cat is anaemic, however severely and whatever the cause, start giving B vitamins immediately. Vitamin 12 in the form of methylcobalamin may be particularly helpful. See Vitamin B for more information.

Lots of reading there.... maybe your vet needs the link too....

Sending hugs, prayers, and vines your way, Barb. I know how easy it is to see the not-so-great news, but there is definitely lots of really good news in Checks report, too! The bupe works well for Checkers, so I'm sure every 8 hours will help your boy. Great news about his phosphorous and thyroid!!! See...lots of good!!!
