This morning, charlie is still real weird. She does not react well to these strong anesthetics and pain killers. Her body is still half asleep. She tries to get up and walk but then her legs collapse under her. Just now she fell completely on top of her water dish with her whole body. We put the water away so she doesn't risk falling in it again and drowning.
A few moments ago she let out a few very weird cries and moans. She is confused and disoriented and it is hard to see her like this.

She is now laying in the corner with her eyes half closed looking grumpy. Even though it is technically day 14, we cannot test her this morning. Maybe tonight it will be better? I really hope so.

Re: 9/7 charlie update

Sending prayers for Charlie. Hopefully the meds will wear off soon and she'll feel more normal.

Re: 9/7 charlie update

I'd just keep an eye on her. Let the meds work their way out of her system. Charlie may metabolize medications slowly so I would be cautious regarding when and how much meds you give her. It may be that the herbal pain medication is a better choice for her.

Re: 9/7 charlie update

Hi Jill,

I hope the meds wear off of Charlie quickly. I had a kitty, Rocko (GA) years ago, who reacted similarly to all anesthesia and pain meds. It showed up when he was a kitten and was neutered and later in life for dentals. I dreaded having him go under for anything. I know hard it is to watch, and how it plays on decisions for care. I hope Charlie is able to clear these meds out of her system quickly. Thinking of you,

Jane

So sorry Charlie is going thru this. I hope the meds will be out of her system soon. Sending feel better vines to Charlie and you :YMHUG:

Re: 9/7 charlie update

BG sky high. Listless. Eyes wide open and body paralyzed. She's on an IV now. Low PH.

(((Jill)))
Please keep us updated when you can. I hope they figure out what's going on quickly.

Please make sure they rule out an allergic reaction to medication. Was Charlie given any antibiotics after the dental? Likewise, narcotic effects may be able to be reversed if that's what's going on.

Re: 9/7 charlie update

I think she is maybe having an allergic reaction to the medicine? We do not know. After 20 mins of IV, still no reaction. I am so sad.

Re: 9/7 charlie update

((((Jill))))

I'm just catching up from yesterday. Yes, please keep us posted. We are sending major LL miracle prayers to Charlie.

(((Jill))

20 min. isn't that long for any system to re-orient. This can take time to flush things out. I hope the ER can reach your vet to find out exactly what meds Charlie was given.

Re: 9/7 charlie update

Jill. Sending healing vines to Charlie this morning. We have you and Charlie in our Prayers

Re: 9/7 charlie update

Sending lots of good thoughts and prayers. Come on Charlie, there is a world of beans and kitties supporting you!

Re: 9/7 charlie update

Sending tons of prayers and support that Charlie will recover in short order & the ER will find out all the meds she was given. Also support to you, Jill!

Re: 9/7 charlie update

The vet from yesterday is not working, but I know what she was given because we had long conversations about it;
- traumeel yesterday AM (herbal pain killer)

Before surgery:
Dexdomitor/ medatomedine? (Pre sedative)

I watched her immediately vomit. The vet said this is common.
I then didn't see them give the antidote because they took her in for surgery. I wonder if they gave this? But the vet today says that even if they didn't, it should have worn off by now.

During surgery:
Propofol anesthetic
Buprenorphine pain killer

Post surgery I thought I saw her have a seizure bedore taking her home. Or it was a panic attack. She was then panting extremely heavily and went to the bathroom on me yesterday.

Last night she was completely out of it.

This morning as well. She tried to walk and her back feet collapsed underneath her. So we let her rest.
She again started panting heavily but stopped for a bit so we though she was resting, but her eyes were wide open so it was weird. We went to the store for a short trip and when we came home she was on her back in front of her food dish shaking and panting and very cold.

The ER vet is keeping her overnight now. 500 euros minimum just for this visit. Ch-ching.
Thank GOD I again have a job so I can do what's right for her.

We are going home now and hope that by morning she will be better. This is going to be an awful evening.
Virtual Belgian beer, with me anyone?

Thanks for your emotional support.
And, oh.... CD and big mac, I sent the photos and videos yesterday before all of this, but I think I again jinxed us.
If we ever arrive at the falls we will throw the biggest party ever and all of you are invited to come to Amsterdam for a nice canal tour and celebration with us.

Goodbye, my sweet Charlie.

They just called and we need to go to the ER. Charlie had a respiratory and cardiac arrest and they cannot revive her. We are going there now to say goodbye.

What we thought was going to be a celebratory weekend has turned into a complete disaster.
