I'm at work all day today so I gave him a 1.25u this morning so I wouldn't have to worry he might drop too low while I'm gone. Yeah, I'm a chicken and Michelangelo would have probably been fine on his regular dose but I don't chance life-or-death things based on probability; only certainty.
A few milestones since his diagnosis a year ago:
So, for anyone doubting whether or not diabetes is a death sentence, Michelangelo was a part-feral kitten diagnosed at 6 months with diabetes. He's made it an entire year with no side-effects, no hypos, no DKA. He's been fed adult low carb (5% or less), wet food since his diagnosis and he's grown bigger and gained weight appropriately (once started on insulin, of course). He is not fearful or scared of me or traumatized by me testing him multiple times a day, +50-100 times a week and you can't even tell the difference between his ears and Henry's ears (whom I only test once in a while). He is living proof that diabetes is manageable regardless of age.
