I'm at work all day today so I gave him a 1.25u this morning so I wouldn't have to worry he might drop too low while I'm gone. Yeah, I'm a chicken and Michelangelo would have probably been fine on his regular dose but I don't chance life-or-death things based on probability; only certainty.

A few milestones since his diagnosis a year ago:

So, for anyone doubting whether or not diabetes is a death sentence, Michelangelo was a part-feral kitten diagnosed at 6 months with diabetes. He's made it an entire year with no side-effects, no hypos, no DKA. He's been fed adult low carb (5% or less), wet food since his diagnosis and he's grown bigger and gained weight appropriately (once started on insulin, of course). He is not fearful or scared of me or traumatized by me testing him multiple times a day, +50-100 times a week and you can't even tell the difference between his ears and Henry's ears (whom I only test once in a while). He is living proof that diabetes is manageable regardless of age.

:dizcat flip_cat Michelangelo is active, happy, and healthy! bcatrun_gif :RAHCAT

Awww handsome boy!

Hopefully I'll get good enough at testing so that my Heart's ears don't show it! I'm much better this time around than last time (and much better than my vet's techs...) but still...

Thanks, you guys! Mikey has been so good throughout all of this and it gave us such a special bond that I make sure I purposefully spend a bit of "special time" with Henry each day as well. ;-) We're quite lucky that he was diagnosed so young and I was able to learn about diet and get them both eating good food at such a young age. All because of this wonderful website. :YMHUG:

Happy 1st Anniverfursary. Both you and Mikey have come so far in that year! And he's grown into one handsome dude. :-D :-D

Happy Anniversary, Mikey! You are one beautiful kitty, and very special, too.

Scritches to you and Henry and :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: s to your mamabean,

Ella & Rusty

HAPPY Anniversary. Sweet Michelangelo! You have done a wonderful job with this little kitty! Many more hapeapy and healthy years!
