11/5 Tiki PMPS 382, +4 273, Bad Day, Better Tomorrow

Spent the night at the 24hr Emergency Vet with my dog. Thought she had a stroke. She threw up, aspirated the vomit and proceeded to wobble and stumble all over. By the time I got her to the vet she had regained her motor skills so they think it may have just aggravated some nerve in her abdomen. She seems ok now but seems to be really sore and spent. SCARED ME TO DEATH. She is about a month away from turning 15. One of these days He's gonna call her home but 'm not ready yet. Heck, I'll never be ready for that day....

Tiki's good though. Had a good night in the greens. I stayed up to test him at 3a - then an hour later all the drama with the dog started.

((((Tonya)))), I'm so sorry to hear about your stressful and scary night. I'm glad your pup is doing ok ~ sending many healing vines her way.
Great greens for Tiki, and now a little bounce ~ hope that clears soon and safely.

Oh it WAS a long night. I'm glad sweet goggie is doing better now. My elderly sheltie developed '(Old dog) Idiopathic vestibular syndrome' - we'd never heard of it and also thought she'd had a stroke. It took about a week for her to regain her full balance and walk correctly again but it's not painful, just hard to watch. It happened another time or two before we lost her at 19 years old...to a bad heart, nothing to do with this....

Since getting home from the vet Sasha barely moved so I just took her outside and she definitely is having trouble moving. She isn't stumbling like before, but now it's as if she has an injury to her right hind leg. She's not limping, but her leg just isn't right. She pooped, peed and is drinking water but doesn't want any treats. She is walking really slowly and acted like she just wanted to find a bush to lay down under the entire time we were outside and dragged behind me the whole time. On a positive note - she saw a squirrel and instantly went into stealth mode and wanted to give chase but I didn't let her. Something definitely happened to her last night. She's acting like she got hit by a truck. Normal vomiting doesn't do these things to a dog.

If it is vestibular syndrome, it will work itself out with time. LadyBug's back legs were wobbly for 2-3 days afterwards, she too walked slow but would alert to her favorite things. This sure sounds like Lady's issues. If that's what it is, it truly doesn't cause other issues, just looks terrible for a bit. Here's a better article:

So Tiki has gone from 102 to 330 in 5 hours. Weird.

So I've been chatting with my regular vet throughout the day about Sasha. I was originally going to take her in tonight for follow up for a UTI she had over the last couple of weeks. I managed to get a sample and brought that in instead of bringing Sasha back in as I really didn't want to stress her out any more than necessary. The good news is the UTI has cleared up. But now there is sugar in her urine probably due to the stress of whatever happened last night but we will need to follow up on that again in 7 to 10 days.

Something neurological definitely happened to her. She is all crooked and clumsy and it just breaks my heart. I am dancing on egg shells as to not totally lose it over this whole thing. All I can do is wait and see. She gets better, or she doesn't. Uuuuugh. Going to go right now and see if I can get her to eat anything. And if she doesn't I will try not to panic.

Thanks for the info on Vestibular Syndrome. I can only hope this might be what it is and give a name to it, seeing as how the Vets can't even say what happened. The question is did the vomit cause the issue or did the issue cause the vomit???

Tiki must be keyed in to the stress I am under from the dog as he wants NO PART of his PM-Poke and no amount of treats or catnip is budging him out from under the bed. Stinker....

Well Tiki is coming down nicely and Sasha is sleeping too. She ate some of the DM food. Gobbled it down is more like it. But when I put a handful of her regular kibble in her dish she walked away (I Nevah...). Made me happy she ate something even if it was just a few spoonfuls. I didn't want to give her too much in case she got sick again. But she is drinking, eating and letting me take her out to pee now and again. I just wish I knew what happened. I really think it was stroke-esque, but only half the symptoms presented themselves. Gums were normal, temp was normal, eyes are ok although they say I REALLY DON'T FEEL GOOD MOM. And there isn't enough about her situation that makes me think it's her inner ear either, especially due to the fact that her whole hind end seems weak and sore. That makes me think neurological. Anyway, will try to get some sleep, but I know it will be restless, good for nothing sleep and will probably dream about the situation all night anyway and wake up more tired than I am now - even though I doubt that's even possible. Tiki has promised to behave himself and he will try not to add to my stress. Oh yeah, if I wanted to go the MRI route to really investigate what happened, it will run me approx - $2500.00. Why oh whyyyyyy didn't I become a vet????? ohmygod_smile

Just feel so helpless. Will stop blabbing for now.....

(((Tonya))) I'm so sorry for the day you've had. We all feel so hopeless when something bad happens to our fur-kids. Sending tons of healing vines for your puppy and sleep easy vines for you. Tiki is at least letting you take it easy tonight. I'm glad Sasha is eating, that's always a good sign.
