Ebby was in a great mood this morning, and then right after her shot she seemed to just get the life sucked out of her. When I got the higher +1 I was worried she'd stay pink all day, but she did come down into the blues, but hopefully not too low as I was not around to test.

Just got back from the grocery store and it is one of Ebby's favorite days. She comes running into the kitchen and peaks her head in each bag, jumps on the counter, jumps on the table, and basically inspects every item I bought.

Re: Ebby AMPS 202 +1 334 +4 179 +9 53!! What!?

Well, I'm shocked. 53 @ +9! I was not around to test since +4 but thought she would not drop low. I hate the feeling that maybe I missed a dangerous low. I wonder if I should decrease. I know technically we're supposed to actually catch the below 50, but I don't completely agree with that. Part of me thinks if there is a pretty good suspicion that she dropped below 50 I should consider reducing. :?

This dropping later in the cycle is a new thing. Could very well have been the case last week too when her numbers seemed so weird. I wonder how long I've been missing reductions. I'm glad she is ok though.

Thanks for the visit Kim! Have a good evening!

Re: Ebby AMPS 202 +1 334 +4 179 +9 53!! What!?

I'd test 1/2 hour later and see if she is going down, on the rise, or surfing. That might give a hint what she was doing all day. Nice  though! They do like to keep us on our toes.

Re: Ebby AMPS 202 +1 334 +4 179 +9 53 +9.5 291 Confused

I got the +9.5 and it is now 291. I'm really confused. Was the strip bad when I got the 53? Is the meter going bad? Can they really jump over 200 points in 1/2 and hour? I just gave her a little LC at +9. No HC was given. :? :? :?

I think my vote would be on the wonky test strip.

Might try to get some "later cycle" tests in when you can though and see if Ebby has decided it's time to move her nadir to further confuse the issue :-D

Re: Ebby AMPS 202 +1 334 +4 179 +9 53 +9.5 291 Confused

If I had to guess, I'd say your +1 was a bad test. If I get a number -- high or low -- that seems odd, I re-test immediately. I'd have re-tested at +9.5, as well. A bounce is certainly a possibility and that would be an impressive bounce.

Another thought... You obviously fed at AMPS. You also mentioned feeding Ebby at +9. What did you feed him? Is there any chance you inadvertently gave something that's not LC? There may be some foods on the list (e.g., the Merrick foods) where the carb count has changed.

another thought...
the battery in your meter might need to be replaced. sometimes you'll get crazy readings which appear to be sporadic for a couple of days before the battery gives out entirely. i've seen that happen more than once.

i'd vote for a bad strip with the 53 as well. when you get a weird # like that it's always good to test again.

the other thing i encountered was when the battery was dying, it didn't just die, i got weird numbers. replaced the battery and VOILA, all was back normal again. they should last about a year, but even if your battery isn't terribly old, i might replace it if i got more wonky numbers.

glad to hear that ebby had fun with the groceries! that must be so cute. cats are such characters!!

Re: Ebby AMPS 202 +1 334 +4 179 +9 53 +9.5 291 Confused

Ok, seeing the PMPS my vote is for bad strip or bad battery too. I think if she did bounce from 53 to 291 in a half hour we would have seen a red or black by PMPS.

Sienne, I fed some Nature's Variety canned Duck. I believe that is in the 1% to 2% range, although it is not Ebby's regular food so who knows how she reacts to it. I got busy and didn't mark the other foods fed this morning on the SS.

Jill, I'll go get a new battery tomorrow.

So, based on Ebby's ss, maybe I've had bad batteries this entire time.

Chris, I'll get more spot checks just to be sure she's not sneaking in lows.

It really is the highlight of her week. I'll have to get a video of it someday to show you guys!

maybe Lucy and Ebby are kindred spirits. Lucy also has to inspect every grocery bag, though it's not the highlight of her week. That would be laundry day.

Oh, Libby! How funny, I think they must be. That picture is hilarious. Look at her eyes; what a cutie!

Ebby gets in the sacks like that too, although she prefers the paper ones over the re-useable ones, so it's a very special day when I come home with a paper bag.
