11/22 Zener PMPS 188;+3 183;+7 186 SKUNKED!

Icky yesterday

MUCH better this morning, but not good enough... Zener is doing fine this morning. Appy is good. It's snowing! Zener and Tillie both went out for a bit, Zener to have a little picnic. He's snuggled back on the bed now. Poor Annebean had to get up early for class (and for me to take her to class so I can take her Jeep on the slick roads for a PT appt - complicated).

We are mourning the passing of Marje's civie Gus last night. He was quite the charmer and everyone fell in love with Gus, including me. He was a lucky kitty to have such a great life with great beans. Thinking of Jupiter this morning, too. He's getting a chemo treatment. Thinking of other ailing kitties and beans and sending healing vines to all. Paws crossed for OTJ trials, Monet, Clyde, Shadow, are there others? Go kitties! Have a great Friday, LL!

Liz, we are having rain/snow at the moment, expecting the changeover to all snow later, and 4-6 inches tomorrow. On Sunday we leave for NYC, so I hope the mountain roads will have been sanded by then. Fortunately we got the winter tires put on and the Forester has all-wheel drive.

As instructed, Zener slid into the blues where he remains still at PMPS. Appys are happy so beans are too! :razz:

Our snow turned to rain mid-afternoon and things are very soggy and slushy. The temperature is supposed to drop and 2-5 inches of snow are forecast over night. The kitties managed a bit of yard patrol in between showers, but are not disgusted by the sloggy slushy ground. Snow shovels are out in preparation for digging out kitty paths tomorrow.

You have such brave kitties going out in the slush and even picnicing out there! Good thing the shovels are ready for the priority job.

Despite his long, furry coat, Rusty does not like to go outdoors in the winter. His feet get too cold! Zener and Tillie, you guys are BRAVE!!

It was a quiet Friday night at our house, the sound of falling rain, beans and kitties cuddled up inside nice and warm, blue numbers, happy appy - ah, peace on earth, well at our house anyway. That was about to come to a stinky end, and not as in stinky pinky.


Then, Zener and Tillie decided to brave the rain for one last round of the backyard and a picnic. We had seen Stella, the name I had bestowed on the very cheeky young skunk who has been regularly visiting our back yard and is not scared of us at all, roaming the backyard earlier. After tossing a few slush balls at her, I thought she had moved on. We thought it was safe to let the kitters out for a quick round, raining and all. I hear Liz calling to me to come quick, the skunk is on the back porch, eating crumbs off Zener's picnic table, the nerve! Zener took offense to that and Stella got her back up, there was hissing and swatting behavior, no tussle. Liz gets Zener in, we start trying to chase the skunk off and get Tillie in, the skunk had sprayed, ugh. Tillie comes in, skunk runs off, and we have a stinky mess. After close inspection of Zener, he appears just fine, but he had been hit by a glancing blow of skunk perfume.

After a sponge bath of sorts with a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and liquid dish detergent, Zener seems to smell okay. @-)
Tomorrow, out comes the "hav-a-heart trap" and Poo Patrol will transform temporarily to Skunk Patrol. We intend to relocate Stella before she gets her groove back!


The drama seems to be over for now. Both kitties are on the bed, tucked in with MamaLizBean. The night duty bean needs a calming beverage!

@julie - why do we invite these critters? BWAHAHAHAAAHAH... we feed the birds to entertain the kitties and somehow the skunks think it is for them! Liz is a very experienced trapper. And here is where we will relocate Stella - about 15 miles from our house.

Oh no!!! I learned the hard way one night that one should always have hydrogen peroxide in the house. Since then, Miss Neko has given skunks the respect they deserve.

Which car gets to be the skunk transport mobile? :shock:

:shock: :shock: :shock: ...Yikes! I'm glad you were able to de-skunk Zener. Skunks are so stinkin' cute...it's too bad the "stinkin' " is also literal! The Hav-a-Heart is an awesome plan, but man are you brave to drive 15 miles with a skunk in your car!!

I hope Stella doesn't get too stressed in that car ride! Maybe she'll decide to avoid your house instead.

Wow on the skunk. I'm glad you were able to get Zener cleaned up. I'd be afraid Stella would spray my car.
