I don't think you would have to worry since you are not giving insulin. Did Furball eat any later than normal last night? Sending good dental vines. I feel for you Carla, it is so hard on us not being able to feed our hungry kitty!

ETA - will you test again in 30 min?

Jane, I tried to coax Furball to eat some extra food last night, but she wasn't hungry and wouldn't eat.

I wasn't sure when to test next. I'm really tired this morning and hadn't thought about getting a test in 30 minutes.

I would worry, but that's just the way us worriers are ;-)
I think you have 2 and 1/2 hours to test her, and hopefully, she'll start to rise.
Tell the vet when you go in of your concern. Tell them to monitor her BGs throughout her stay at the vet hospital, or maybe they will want to re-schedule the appointment. I believe they can use a glucose drip if needed.

I just caught Furball digging in the trash looking for food. I wish I didn't have to wait so long.

I removed the trash can. I never thought about her doing that. It's a small trash can, not the one in the kitchen. I'm glad she's coming up some. She did not like getting a test and not getting any treats.

Besides meter variance, that looks like a pretty good rise in 30 minutes time.
I'm sorry you have to wait. I know this day is going to be long, and you can not wait for it to be over and Furball is home in your loving arms this afternoon. Sending more Perfect Dental Vines to Furball today.

I managed to get Furball to play with a straw for a few minutes. Mostly she's wandering around to her many feeding spots looking for any crumbs. Since she takes pieces of her food off of her plate and eats on the floor beside the plate, I had to make sure and sweep good to get any crumbs up.

Poor baby, but she is smart- she know where she might find some leftovers :smile: Hope this day goes fast for your Carla. I think it is harder on the beans than the kitties. Glad her number is rising~

Sending perfect dental vines for Furball and calming vines to you Carla :-D I believe the main reason they don't like them eating is so they don't vomit while intubated. If she did find a crumb here or there I think it wouldn't be anything to stress over. I know we would get some animals in for surgeries that had gotten into food when they weren't supposed to and depending on the time frame, staff and the vet, they would still sometimes do the intubation.

I wouldn't worry about the numbers.The vet should get a BG (since anesthesia can lower BG) before the procedure and most vets will start an IV both for fluids and as a "just in case" during any procedure requiring anesthesia.

I hope too that all goes well with the dental today. I am sure it will. I so remember those food ordeals... it was the same here. I too wouldn't worry about then numbers this morning, there is no insulin on board, and the vet should take reading while Furball is there. It is as Sienne states. I know for certain that my vet always ran a line with Mannie, "just in case." I would also ask them to take a BG reading too, "just in case". So Furball: you go ad have a good dental today. Be good, surf well, and come home sporting some very pearly whites.

Thanks everyone. I think the waiting is the hardest part, especially in the morning when I can't feed.

I got a test before I took her to the vet and she was at 209. I let the vet know what her readings were this morning and she said she would get a pre-anesthesia test that includes BG and will check liver and kidney values. They will be running an IV while doing the procedure. They will get a BG reading when she first wakes up. I took the day off from work, so now I have to find something to distract myself until I can pick her up at 3:15 this afternoon.

Hoping all goes smoothly today for sweet lil Furball. It would be a good time to catch up on some sleep, but I doubt that's gonna happen. She'll be home before you know it!

I just got a call from the vet. Furball is finished with the dental. It went well. No extractions. Just a cleaning. Her BG before the dental was only 260. I figured it would be higher from vetty stress. I still have to wait until 3:15 to pick her up. She's still a bit wobbly and the vet wants to get a BG check at 3:00. She is going to give her some food and water in 30 minutes. I took a can of her 9 Lives and left it this morning so I'll know what she's eating.

Furball is home. Her pickup time was 3:15, but they had it down as 4:00 so it took me 45 minutes to get her and get home. I only live 5 minutes from the vet. At least she's home. The vet tested her BG at 3:00 and got 481. I tested when I got home and got the 464. She was hungry when we got home. I left a can of food at the vet for them to feed her when she woke up, but she wouldn't eat for them. I had bought some baby food in case she didn't want to eat. I decided to give her some of that since she didn't eat her regular food at the vet. She ate 3 teaspoons of baby food. I am holding off on feeding her more because it is so close to dinner time and I don't want her to get sick.

The vet who did the dental was off this afternoon because her daughter is in a Nutcracker play. She's also the one I see for Furball's FD. Another vet saw the 481 and wanted me to give her insulin as soon as I got home. I can't get that far off schedule. I knew she'd be high and the number didn't freak me out. I don't think they are used to home testing. I may shoot a little early tonight as long as she is eating.

Carla, I've been thinking about Furball and her dental all morning. I'm so glad it was only a cleaning (yay for no extractions!!) and that she's eating some baby food. You're such a good mama. Give her some gentle scritches from me.

Glad that Furball is home again and sounds like she's doing well!

Seems like this is the month for dentals, doesn't it? Seen lots of them lately, and I know Neko and China both have theirs next Thursday

Nice that she didn't need any extractions too...should mean she doesn't have a lot of pain either and can bounce back quickly!

It's always hardest on us beans, Carla...I'm already stressing about China's and it's not for another 6 days

I fed Furball early and gave her shot 30 minutes early. She ate pretty good. She has been extra loving this evening.

Wonderful news that Furball didn't have any extractions and that she now has nice shiny toofies. I hope the toof fairy will bring her something nice even though she didn't have an extraction.

I'm so happy everything went so well and she didnt need any extractions. I bet she was so glad to be home.

I hope you both get some rest tonight. It might take her a cycle or so to get back at it but I bet she will do great.
