HI +11

First of all, Thank You Very Much for all the support and well wishes and eating vines for J.D., yesterday.

Unfortunately, I have to log off already. :( J.D. is keeping me busy.
He got Bupe and Cerenia about 15 minutes ago. He ate some FF Shrimp & Fish at AMPS and some FF Tuna Feast at +0.5.
He seemed hungry this morning and was following me all around, especially into the kitchen. Unfortunately I get up at +11 and he is not supposed to eat for another hour yet. I gave him some roast beef. When I took that +11 test he was purring pretty loudly. I hope it was because of the roast beef I had in my hand. He stopped purring once the roast beef was done.

I have to go. I ordered the Terumo syringes that were recommended yesterday. That will be a process trying to figure out how many drops are in my syringes to figure out the dose on the new syringes.

Have a good day. Keep sending eating vines and feel better vines to J.D.
Thanks :YMHUG:

You are in my thoughts!

Re: 01/14 J.D. AMPS HI

Sending eating (and purring) vines to J.D. I hope the high numbers are reflecting his being uncomfortable from the p'titis. Hopefully, the bupe will take the edge off.

Re: 01/14 J.D. AMPS HI

Appy/feel better vines continue for J.D. cat_pet_icon How about a little slide down now, slowly and safely, please

Re: 01/14 J.D. AMPS HI

Good luck on the syringes, I'm sure you'll do great at figuring it out :-D I'm glad to see J.D. has an appy, I hope he slides down from that HI today. I'm still sending appy and feel good vines to J.D., keep eating your fuds little one! Have a nice day, Dyana

Re: 01/14 J.D. AMPS HI

Hi Dyana, We are sending extra-special vines for J.D. to eat well today. I'm including links to Marje's condos in which the Terumo vs. Monoject syringes were discussed (lots of info. on figuring out the dose, even though the Relion syringes are not discussed). Do you use calipers? They permit you to be very accurate in dosing when used with Terumos. The last link listed below is great info. for getting the dose correct using calipers and Terumos.

Good luck!

Re: 01/14 J.D. AMPS HI

Adding on some more happy appy and feel good vines for J.D. I hope you like the Terumos. I was really glad when I switched to them. They can be a little bubblicious but I think they are pretty good. Good luck!

Re: 01/14 J.D. AMPS HI

Thanks for the vines, everyone. :YMHUG: Much appreciated. I hope he is doing well, as I can not make it home to check on him today.

Question: I think I'm going to have to count the drops from the ReliOn and then somehow match up the drop sizes in the Terumo (And the ReliOns I use are 29G and the Terumo's are 31. Anyone have any better ideas on how to compare doses between syringes?

Re: 01/14 J.D. AMPS HI, switching from ReliOn 29G to Terumo

Hi Dyana:

Sending healing and appy vines to J.D. Hope you find him much improved when you get home. It's tough being away when they aren't feeling well, isn't it? nailbite_smile

Good luck with the syringe switch. There are so many little details and nuances to all this, sometimes I feel like my head is going to explode if I have to squeeze one more piece of info in there!

Re: 01/14 J.D. AMPS HI, switching from ReliOn 29G to Terumo

Sending more Appy vines and healing vines for J.D., I'm happy to see he ate some. I'm so sorry you can't check on him today. I know that must be very stressful with him feeling out of sorts..

Re: 01/14 J.D. AMPS HI, switching from ReliOn 29G to Terumo

Sending tons of feel better/appy vines for JD. Good to hear he was following you around this morning. That's a more positive sign for his appy  cat_pet_icon

I wish I could help you with the swap over, but when I started using calipers, I figured that I was previously already giving an inconsistent shot size due to the variabilities in each syringe, so I measured a few different syringes and took an average. That became my 1U, and everything else followed. Not very technical, nor accurate to start, but it worked and I swear by the calipers now.
Hopefully someone will have a great suggestion for you soon ;-)
Good luck Dyana! :-D

Continuing to send truck load of appy vines over to JD, and feel better ones too. :YMHUG:

As a first guess effort at translating from syringe type to another, I've seen someone draw up colored liquid from the old syringe, eject it into something like a spoon, then try to draw it all up into the new one. Not as accurate as lab equipment, but might get you in the ballpark.

Re: 01/14 J.D. PMPS 426 switching from ReliOn 29G to Terumo

Thank you for the vines. J.D. can still use them, please.

I came home from work to DBF at my house. It was very very stinky. There were two piles of very stinky diarrhea on the carpet. I am going to assume it was J.D. and started him on Flagyl tonight at PMPS. I hope that is okay. My vet gave me extra, for just in case.
I also gave him his Bupe at PMPS (12 hours after his last dose). He had Cerenia last night at 8:30pm and again this morning at 7:00am. My vet said I am to give 1/4 tablet every 24 hours, so he will get another dose tomorrow morning.

I left out a bunch of FF and more than half of it was eaten, so I guess J.D. ate some of it.

I syringe fed 1/4 can of the MaxCal this morning, and am working on the other 1/4 can for this evening.

I called ADW to make sure my order went through and had to admit I was from New Jersey and a prescription was required, so they asked for my doctor's (vet's) fax number, and it has started shipping from Florida today.

Thanks Wendy for the suggestion about the spoon. I just happen to have some cranberry juice. I will try to figure this out.

J.D. hasn't been as hungry tonight, but did eat some cat treats, and then a bit of roast beef. I broiled his stead and he ate a bit of that. He keeps going into the litter box and not producing anything, so I think he might have tummy issues still.

Please keep the vines coming for J.D.

I need to get some sleep as I am sleep deprived. I hope J.D. is feeling better tomorrow morning.

Night.

Re: 01/14 J.D. PMPS 426 switching from ReliOn 29G to Terumo

Sending lots more healing vines and eating wishes for J.D., here's hoping he feels lots better and that his #s have come down by morning and his appy has come up.

Also sending peaceful sleeping vines to you Dyana, even tho I know that you will be up off and on all night long checking on J.D. So here's to sleeping well, in little batches, all night long, and that every time you do get up, J.D. is better and better and then even better, and that by morning he will be so hungry you will be late for work b/c you had to make him a very special breakfast!

Re: 01/14 J.D. PMPS 426 switching from ReliOn 29G to Terumo

Hi again, Dyana,

I'm sorry that J.D. is having intestinal problems and hope that all will clear up tonight.

I think that Marje mentioned the other day (in response to a question about measuring the dose in different syringes) that you can try drawing up your dose in your Relion (using a colored liquid), then removing the plunger from the bottom of the Terumo by pulling it out, and shooting the insulin into the barrel of the Terumo (holding it upsidedown). This may give you a rough estimate and would eliminate the "spoon", which I would think would be difficult to use and not very accurate.

Good luck!

Ella

p.s. Once ADW has your prescription for syringes on file, you don't have to get a new one each time you order. Just write on the order form "prescription on file."

Re: 01/14 J.D. PMPS 426 switching from ReliOn 29G to Terumo

i don't remember who said that about pulling out the plunger and injecting from the old syringe into the terumo to see what it looks like in the new syringe. i thought it was fairly brilliant. i hope it helps you.

sending good sleep vines for you and feel better wishes for little JD. :YMHUG:

Re: 01/14 J.D. PMPS 426 switching from ReliOn 29G to Terumo

Sending many healing vines to JD.

Unfortunately, pulling out the plunger in one syringe and injecting from one syringe to the other doesn't work. Been there,
Done that. It's just going to be trial and error and adjust. I tried everything you can think of in switching between Monojects and Terumos and until MJs sent me the micropipettor, I couldn't get a consistent dose.
