Hi Wendy. I'm not sure what exactly is wrong. He eats his freeze-dried chicken, Gravy Lovers, baked chicken breast, and his pill pockets well, but he's not eating much of his regular Fancy Feast. I'm starting to worry that he might have a tooth problem but could he eat those other things without any problem if he did? I'm terrified of it being his teeth. He has a heart problem and anesthesia is dangerous for him.

Have you tried other non FF fuds on him? Just wondering if he's getting bored of the selection. It does sounds like he's got a good appetite and is able to eat. Baked chicken breast would definitely require some chewing.
If new fuds doesn't perk things up, I think it's worth a vet visit to check Pepper's mouth. Neko has some tumor related soft tissue growth on her gums, which was causing her upper canine to rub against the lower one and it was getting red. To my regular vet it looked like a tooth needed to be pulled. But I went to a dental specialist for a couple of reasons. The first is that my regular vet didn't do dental X-rays (which proved the teeth were fine) and the second is that the dental specialist is used to special cases and does heart monitoring during the dentals. They work very closely with the place where Neko got her echocardiogram. Of course they cost more. :roll:

Hi Wendy - What did they do for Neko's soft tissue growth? Just in case, I checked and I think there is a veterinary dentist at a local animal hospital that we've been to before. I would definitely go with a specialist if necessary, but it's still terrifying.

The vet just filed back Neko's tooth so it wouldn't rub anymore. Cheaper than an extraction too. Has Pepper's heart changed since the four days of SRT? One day of anesthesia is easier than four in a row. Didn't stop me from worrying though. But the dental specialist website may me feel more comfortable about the procedure. My vet said no to a dental for J.D., so I took him a Dental Specialist and went all out with an echocardiogram and cardiologist appointment first, and paid extra for a dedicated anethesialogist during the procedure. He was 18 at his last dental, so I wanted to do everything I could. I felt pretty secure and trusting with these people and the hospital I took him to.

Wendy - Pepper's condition is complicated. The hypertrophic cardiomyopathy has improved ( her report said "significant improvement/resolution of concentric hypertrophy") but now the cardiologist says he has restrictive cardiomyopathy. His heart is still enlarged and the pumping function of his heart has declined since the SRT. He is now on Lasix and Vetmedin.

Good news the HCM is better but it does sound complicated. I think a long conversation with a dental specialist is indicated to see how much experience they have in this area. You might want to PM Melissa as Tarragon also has HCM and is taking Lasix. I don't know if he's had a dental lately. My civie Buster (GA) had early stages of HCM and an abscess tooth that I was talking to the vet about getting treated, but then he had his saddle thrombosis episode and it was too late.
