Took Pepper to see his regular vet who took chest x-rays that showed fluid build-up around his heart and lungs, so we took him directly to his cardiologist who drained the fluid and put him in an oxygen chamber. They are keeping him overnight. I got to visit him before we left the animal hospital and he already looked like he was feeling so much better! He was up and wanted to be petted and I'm sure he thought we were going home, poor baby! The cardiologist took an echocardiogram and said his heart didn't look any worse than at his last appt. three months ago but the Lasix wasn't doing the job, so she prescribed a different diuretic, torsemide, instead.

I'm sorry Pepper has to stay overnight. Sending prayers your way...good news that his heart looks OK and just changing meds should do the trick!

It's always hard to leave our babies overnight! I'm glad they could help Pepper and I hope the new meds will help  . It's good he was feeling better when you saw him.

(((((Nancy))))) I'm glad you caught that and got Pepper to the vet so quickly. Paws crossed the new med does the job. I'm glad the heart still looks the same. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: Sending tons of good vetty vines so that he can come home tomorrow.

Oh Pepper :-| having to stay away from mom. Did you get to drop off an unwashed shirt or pillowcase for him to snuggle with?
Sending comfort vines to your boy.

sending our best get better wishes to sweet pepper! that's no fun - i'm sorry he's gotta stay there.

LOL on the shirt idea - i left one for punkin when we were at CSU for the SRT and darned if he didn't pee on it. they gave it back to me in a plastic bag!

has he had this fluid build-up before? it's from his heart? hoping the new meds work miracles for the sweet boy! cat_pet_icon

I hope your sweet Dr. P does better with the new med. Poor guy, having to spend the night at the vetty. Hugs to you, Nancy.

Julie -   I can't believe sweet punkin would have done that!

OMGosh I am so glad you caught the fluid! How amazing to have a kitty cardiologist. What a lucky Pepper!

Here's hoping he is home safe and sound in the morning.

Sending tons of healing vines for Pepper. So glad you were able to get him seen and the situation handled so quickly. We'll be hoping to see your post tomorrow saying he came home feeling much better!

I'm glad Pepper is feeling better after the fluids are drained.
I'm glad you and the vet caught it early.
Sending lots of feel better vines to Pepper.

I am glad that you got Pepper to the vet and he is looking better. Sending prayers for the next medication to work well for Pepper and for him to continue to improve. It's so hard when we have to leave them.

Thanks everyone for your prayers and well-wishes for Pepper.

Julie - Pepper had some fluid at his last appointment 3 months ago. The cardiologist increased his dose of Lasix and it took care of it at that time.

Sienne - Pepper is also on Vetmedin and Plavix.
