OK, I give up trying to figure out what's going on with China, so I carved out an afternoon for just her and I and we're going to the vet. I hate putting her through the stress of over an hour's drive away, but I really want her to see this vet since she's a member of the AAFP, and I'm hoping we get some better results than the vets around here who do both large and small animals, so aren't really up to date on anything cat related. To a lot of them, a cat is just a critter they see in the barn on their way to treat a cow. Going to ask for a prescription for the Solostar Pen too.(hoping she'll write it for me...otherwise my only option is to buy another new vial) I found one pharmacy within 100 miles of me that is willing to sell me one pen, but ONLY because they just happen to have 2 singles (they said they had an "emergency" once and had to break open a box and have 2 left....if they were willing to break a box once, why won't they do it for us? Probably because she's "only a cat"). That's the kind of attitude you get when you live in the middle of "farm country".

I'm really worried about this cough she's had lately and of course the worst possible things are all I can think of. I don't think I've ever prayed for a hairball that's just sounding a little different than others before, but that's the only diagnosis I think I could stand right now. Would really appreciate all the good vetty vines we can get!

Hope everyone is having a nice Fursday and that your kitties are surfing pretty blues and greens!

Hi Chris! I'm glad you are going to the vet, if only to give you peace of mind. Paws crossed there is nothing wrong, and if there is that it is easily treatable. I always thing the worst too :?

I'm glad you found a single pen! It's too bad they don't sell them that way, I really don't understand what the big deal is or why they don't manufacture them as singles too. Seems so stupid...not everyone is rich or on a plan, regardless of cat or human  Anyways, that was my rant of the day  .

:YMHUG: Keep us updated, I'm sending calming vines to China (and you!) for the long drive and vetty visit. Happy Fursday!

Hi Chris. Thanks for the visit and the kind words. Now I'll return the favor. I'm praying it's something easily treatable. Sending calming and safe travel vines for both of you and good vetty vines too.

Thanks for the visits and good vetty vines everyone!

Here's where we're at...She said China's lungs and throat both sounded pretty "rough", so took a LOT of blood to send off to the lab. I should hear at least some of the results tomorrow. She's thinking maybe she's got allergies/Asthma so wants me to try giving her 2mg of Chlor Trimeton antihistamine twice a day for 10 days, but she also mentioned heartworm disease, and if the bloodwork comes back with a high white blood count, possible bacterial or viral infection. In those cases, she'll have to go back for x-rays and possibly a Bronchoscopy to get some tissue samples to see what's going on.

So we still don't know a whole lot, other than I was right to think there was something wrong.

China was a very good kitty, and didn't even give them (much) trouble when they put her on her side to get blood out of her femoral artery. As usual, she wasn't at all happy with the car ride, but I skipped feeding her after +3 so there wouldn't be much on her stomach to puke up and it seemed to have worked. The REAL shocker was when we got home, I grabbed a quick test and she was only 93!! What's with this cat? When she was in a strange place (the hotel when mom had her surgery) she had some really great numbers, and as soon as we walk in the door after over 2 hours of driving and being poked and prodded by the vet, she's only at 93?!?!

I did get the new pens from the pharmacy. When I was there waiting, they'd only given me one pen, and when I was talking to the pharmacist about why they don't break up boxes, she just told me (again) that they'd had an emergency for someone that meant they had to do it that one time. Then she said "I'd just been looking at those 2 pens the other day wondering how long they'd sit there before we'd get rid of them. They'd been there 2 months..and then you called!"....I couldn't help but take advantage of that though, since the price for one was going to be almost $80, so I said they should be giving me a discount if I bought them both...and they did! I ended up getting 2 for $134.

After all this, I still had to run to get the Chlor Trimeton as well as all the way on the other side of the lake for some pill pockets (I'm hoping these will work). I picked up a pill gun just in case they don't though. China has always been darn near impossible to pill, so we'll just have to see how this goes.

Thanks again for the vines, and keep them coming! I don't want her to have asthma, but given the other options, I guess that's better than they are!

Sending prayers you get good test results back and it's something treatable. That's great on the two pens.

I'm glad you got China into vetty today. Your instincts were spot on. I'm hope it's something very treatable. Ella gives Rusty Allerplex for his lungs, maybe you want to ask her about that. Some kitties go lower after going to the vet, maybe that was China today? Anyway, nice to see that green.

Good luck on the pilling (I love pill pockets!) and I'm continuing to send vines your way.
