Hello LL,

Well we have been off the Tight Regulation for a little bit.
Rex is having Kidney issues and not wanting to eat. I am very upset!!!!!!

Have been giving him Fluids every night per the Vets direction.
He is also on B12 once a week
Epakitin to help absorb the phosphorus
Pepcid AC to help his tummy but is not wanting to eat.

Finally thought to look up and try the Liver Shake. He has lapped up 10cc x3 tonight and is more alert.

Will be switching Rex it Low Phosphorus and Low Carb food. This will be fun.
Might have to provide some assisted feeding.

Another Vet visit tomorrow morning.

Didn't know if I should post our daily activity since I can't keep him on TR.

Thanks for listening!!!!

(((Rich))) Sorry to hear that Rex is having kidney issues. There are a few people here who have the FD/CKD issue combo, so lots of experience on low phos fuds. You are free to keep posting here if you want. :YMHUG: When you say you can't do TR, is that because of his appetite? If you attach his lab results to the SS, some people might be able to help you. You might want to contact Marje to see if she has time to look at the lab results.

Eat Rex - fuds is good for you and you'll feel better.

Oh gosh I am so sad to hear this. I'll be happy to look at his bloodwork. Epakitin is kind of old school as a phosphorus binder but can also bind with toxins and sometimes reduce the BUN/creatinine so perhaps that's why it's also being used?

I can help you a lot with this by teaching you about CKD and treatments to discuss with the vet. b12 injections won't help anemia but do help intestinal issues. He needs methylB12 and multi B capsules for anemia.

Have they checked his blood pressure?

Please track me down....I'll be glad to share info for you to discuss with the vet.

((((Rich)))))

Hi Rich:

I don't have any advice for you, but as someone who grew up in Tucson, I wanted to lend moral support. I have a non-FD kitty that is starting to have kidney issues, so I've been experimenting with low phos foods, and since I want to be able to feed all my kitties the same food, I'm looking for low carb, too. There are more options than you think. It's all a matter of what he will eat! Sending healing and good appy vines for Rex.

For some excellent info on Chronic Kidney Disease, pop over to Tanya's website here. There are lots of ideas on dealing with nausea, as well as explaining what is going on in the body and how it affects the cat.

Hi Rich,
I hope that you will be able to get a handle on the kidney issues. Tanya's website is awesome and is also available in book form. I know that Marje will be able to give you lots of advice,

Hang in there! Feel better Rex!

Hi Rich!

No advice from me either but I am glad Marje can help you as well. I sure hope he has a good vet visit and you both can have some cuddle time together. Somehow it makes everything better.

Bech! Hated to see this post for dear, sweet Rex. Sending gardens of happy appy and feel good vines. Eat your fuds, Rex, they do a body good. Hang in there, Rich :YMHUG:

Marje is a great resource when it comes to CKD. I also second the recommendation to look at Tanya's site. The info on that website is also available as a book.

just wanted to lend you a little moral support, rich. it's hard to have our little ones not doing well.

sending our best to Rex!!

there are several people here not following TR. please post anyway. you're part of the LL family!
