Good afternoon everyone,

Rocky just broke his bounce about one hour ago. We're dipping our toes into the lagoon. I'm attempting to prop up his BG to keep him in the lagoon rather than diving into the green. Not sure if this is going to work. Rocky is in control. :-D

Yesterday's SS:
AMPS 479 the rest of the entire day and night ALL PINK

Wendy, Catherine and Libby, thanks for stopping by. Libby, thank you for discovering those clues as I was not seeing them. I didn't have any 12% carb here today, just 5%, 8%, 11%, 18%, and 33%.. I will re-read what you wrote here and memorize it. I was up way too late last night and up too darn early today. My brain is dragging and lagging today.

When I saw that Rocky's BG had gone from 300 to 149 today, I fed him about (1)TBS of the 5% carb at AMPS +4, but he still dropped. Just 1/2 hour later her was at 111. I've now fed him (1)TBS of the 11% carb, the closest to what you recommended, Libby. I hope that this will allow him to surf at the lagoon for awhile. I'll keep feeding him the 11% until I see his BG go up without feeding him.

Re: 5/22 Rocky AMPS 298 +2 300 +4 149 +4.5 111

actually I don't think you need to feed 11% until you see the BG go up, just until he starts to surf or the drop slows down. You're not really trying to bump the number up so much as you are trying to keep it from tanking. Does that make sense?

And I pulled the number 12% out of the air as something to try. 11% is fine, as long as it is a little more than his regular food but not too much more. Save the higher carb stuff for when you DO need to get the number up.

This is a little different looking cycle than the others, too. It's a more steady drop and it's not so early in the cycle. I wouldn't really expect him to go too low today (anything is possible, of course). If we're lucky, he'll just cruise in to a nice preshot.

Ok, thanks Libby. :YMHUG: His BG is still going down, dang it. I'm teeny bit worried that he may get full if I keep feeding him. nailbite_smile I think that's why I jump for the big guns of 33% carbs a lot of the time and I know I shouldn't do that.

Tina, much better numbers. With a +5 that has not gone under 100 I bet you he doesn't drop under 50. OOPS, I didn't say that. I hope he surfs nicely for you.

Right now it looks like Rocky's BG might be in yellow numbers by his PMPS shot time, about 40 minutes from now. It is Rocky though, so who knows, maybe even a pink number by shot time.

However, what percentage carb food do you think I should feed him for his 3 min-meals this evening? I've been feeding him a ton lately and I don't want him to start getting fat.

I've got 5%, 8%, 11%, 18% and 33% carbs in my pantry. Which one(s) and how much? confused_cat

Thanks!

Hi Tina - nice cycle for Rocky today. If you don't want him getting fat, the question is how many calories, not what carb%. You should decide what his daily calorie count should be and figure that into what you feed him.

I won't be able to figure out his calories tonight. I don't know how to do that. I don't know how many calories he should be eating.

Right now, I'm just trying to figure out what percentage carb might keep his BG at smooth sailing so that I'm not loading on calories to keep him from diving.

Tina

I would try to be as consistent as possible on what I feed him except as Libby discussed earlier where you might want to feed a higher low carb or a medium carb food to slow him down. That's what I do with Gracie. I know how many calories she should have in a day and I split that into a.m. and p.m. portions. If she needs more carbs to slow her down or bring up low numbers, then I switch foods. But if she's flat or not coming down really low, I stick with her 4% food.

Re: carb advice! 5/22 Rocky PMPS 178

Thank you Marje. I guess at some time I will need to figure out how many calories that Rocky needs. He had already dropped 17 points on his own BEFORE this evening's shot and I don't want to be playing "catch-up" all night long with him so I fed him the Wellness Core Chicken/Turkey/Liver which is suppose to have 8% carbs. I fed him only 1/4 can of it.

I will retest him at PMPS +1 and re-evaluate how much food and how many carbs I should give him to "try" and help him surf in blue numbers. Frankly, I don't really want a green cycle tonight. I'm pretty beat-up tired. I-)

Re: carb advice! 5/22 Rocky PMPS 178

If his weight has been stable, then weigh out what you've been giving him so you know how much it is.

If you don't know or can't estimate, then weigh him, then calculate 20 calories per pound. Feed that for one week. If he gains weight but doesn't need to adjust the calories down just a hair. If he loses weight, increase calories. If his weight is fine now, you just need to figure out how many calories he needs to keep him stable.

Re: 5/22 Rocky PMPS 178 +1 261

Ok I can do that tomorrow Marje. I have an infant scale and I can weigh him on it.

Looks like I got my wish.. just that small bump up to an 8% carb from a 4% carb increased his BG by 83 points. I only fed him 1/4 can of it. (I bet that measures out to 2-TBS..) So, for his 2nd mini-meal we're back to the 4% carbs FF Classic chicken. He just ate 1/2 can of it so that should be 1.5oz of food.

Unless that 83 points up was a food spike?

He is REALLY not happy with this amount of food tonight. He is crying for more.
