More hugs Dyana. RenaKare must be about the same thing as RenalK. It IS a pain and Doc hated it...doesn't sound like JD minded it so that's great!! If I let it sit more than a few seconds in the syringe, it stuck the syringe and I'd miss my opportunity I'd fought for...

HUGS!

You can try removing the syringe plunger and squirting the stuff into the back end of the plunger. When I syringe feed my cats I use a little spoon and fill the syringe that way.

I tried that this morning, and it worked so much easier :thumbup
Thank you.

I got a good night's sleep. I don't know if J.D. tried to climb up and sleep with me and purr, I was out like a light.

It is a nice cool morning. It is amazing how quickly winter is coming. The sun seems to be rising later and setting sooner everyday, fast.

J.D. has been on a couple short walk. He's not super bright, but seems to be feeling okay. He licked at some HC this morning. And he ate a few treats last night. It has been crossing my mind to try a bit of mirtazapine. If it's an anti-depressant in humans, it may help to lighten his mood when he's feeling depressed (from all the syringing and meds, or maybe it's just not feeling good :-| ) and maybe have the added benefit of stimulating his appetite, too. My bottles of it are probably two years old, but they probably still work. Some people give a little bit of it everyday, right?

I'm trying to get him more used to getting his syringe feeding in the morning and at night as if I was going to work for the day. Last night I quit feeding at +3.25 and he got 20ml of MaxCal and some Pepcid at +11.75, then he got 10ml Wellness (easier on his tummy because of less fat) with Ondansetron, Cerenia, Flagyl, and methyl B12 at AMPS, and 10ml of Wellness with the RenaKare at +1. Normally, I would be gone to work by now, but I am trying to work into this slowly. He will get another few syringes throughout the morning. I keep trying to interest him in some food or treats but it's been a no go since his first bit of HC early this morning.

Weight yesterday at 10:00am was 10lbs 2oz and this morning at 7:00am 10lbs 4.5oz. Although my Salter 914 Toddler Scale was acting a little funky this morning. First it was flashing between 10lbs 7oz and 10lbs 6.5oz and then it was going up and down. I guess it's sensitive and J.D. was moving too much. I've had it a long time, and normally, it doesn't go up and down that much.

I think I will try to just do his fluids once today instead of twice. I'm not convinced on this thought, yet. We'll see how he acts today. Right now his gums are slippery. He is laying at my feet, so I just reached down.

Eye goobers: He had eye goobers in his right eye again. He had them last Wednesday, too. Greenish grayish. And his eye seemed extra watery last night. It's just what he needs, is an eye infection.

That's my morning report. ;-)

Mr. J.D. is dropping nicely. I hope that he continues to give you a lovely surf today. :D

I'm glad to hear that you had a great night's sleep. Hang in there, you 2. :YMHUG: :-D

Re: 08/17 J.D. AMPS 485, +2.5 238, +4 169, +5 209

I just went through the cat food list and am off to go searching for the foods now.

Lower fat, moderate or low carbs and phosphorus, high calories.

He did eat some cat treats at +4. I love it when he eats.

I'm glad you got a good night's sleep last night Dyana. :YMHUG: Sounds like JD is doing fine today, walks are good, and so is stable weight. Paws crossed he doesn't have an eye infection.

Re: 08/17 J.D. +5 209, +6 324 (TOR), +7.25 295 ate a little

I got home from pet food shopping, and he seemed a little slow and out of it (which reminds me, his Bupe dose is due).
He ate a little of the MC FF Medleys I brought home and a few cat treats. He went to his water bowl and didn't really drink much. He is dehydrated again. Then he peed a whole bunch. If he's dehydrated, why doesn't he drink more? I mean he goes to his water bowl often and drinks half the time and half the time he drinks just a little and mostly just hangs his head over the bowl and gets his chin fur wet. What causes the dehydration?
So, I just gave him 50ml of fluids and will give him the other 50ml tonight.

I am tired and could use a nap or a swim.

Re: 08/17 J.D. +5 209, +6 324 (TOR), +7.25 295 ate a little

I'm glad you were able to get some sleep. That always helps. I'm glad J.D. is feeling okay. I hope he will eat more for you and the fluids help him feel better.

Mirtazapine: When Furball was first diagnosed with FD, my vet gave me some for her. The instructions on the bottle say to give 1/4 of a table every 72 hours. I don't think it is supposed to be given every day.

I'm glad you got a good night's sleep. You need to take care of you! Don't forget to eat!

Sending tons of good appy and tummy vines to J.D.

Re: 08/17 J.D. PMPS 482

I have to syringe feed more syringes now, because the Iams Maximum Calorie seemed to be bloating his tummy. Less calories per syringe means more syringes.

Tonight I mixed about 30ml of MaxCal with 1 can of FF Chunky Chopped Grill and 1 can of FF Medleys White Chicken Meat Primavera. He has had 75mls so far and I need to get another 15ml plus some baby food squash into him before bedtime. He did not poo yet, today and was trying to find just the right spot, just the right angle of body, while out on a walk, and just didn't quite find the perfect position.
I stopped his Miralax yesterday as he had a wetish poo on Friday and a perfect poo yesterday, but none, so far, today.

Tomorrow, we have an appointment with J.D.'s regular vet. Please wish us luck. She said he lost the sparkle in his eye on Thursday. I think he has not given up hope. He seemed good or most of the day.

I do need to address his hanging his head over the water bowl and whether that is nausea or thirst, and his hydration and fluids schedule and when she wants to test next regarding his low pottasium and sodium.

Please wish us luck tomorrow, along with any healing vines you have to spare.

Re: 08/17 J.D. PMPS 482

Good luck at the Vetty visit tomorrow. Sending tons of healing vines. You are such a good momma bean, Dyana.

Hugs,
Kathie

Thanks Kathie.
I also want to ask her to do a C&S to try to find an AB that will help with his elevated WBC.

Night for us.

Sending lots of good vetty visit vines, as well as healing and appy vines and general purpose vines to cover any other need! You and J.D. are in my prayers, Dyana. :YMHUG:
